Getting Back to Normal!
Whatever "normal" is. New normal? The normal I want to be normal?
Today I ran for the first time since May. I've been pretty much entirely sedentary since my first reconstructive surgery in early June. I had my legs done last, 73 days ago, and due to a few wound openings, they took longer to heal than expected. So instead of being able to get back to exercising after 42 days, it took quite a bit longer. I've been exercising regularly since the beginning of the year, but today is the first day I felt brave enough to try to run a little bit.
I set my watch for 4 minutes of walking to 1 minute of running - I figured there was no way I'd be able to run the entire minute and that was okay, I'd just run as much as I could and see where my body was at. I ran the entire minute with no problems. Then I did it four more times!
Pre-VSG Gwen could never have imagined a Gwen who would be so thrilled to be able to run again :D
I'm so freaking happy. The whole reconstructive surgery and recovery process has been challenging and this was the final piece of the puzzle I was still lacking to feel like everything was going to be great again. I feel like I can get back to living the life I want to be living now - a life that happens to include running.

Wonderful!!! I'm trying my best to exercise but I feel like all my energy has been zapped most days.

Surprisingly, exercise is one of those things that can actually increase energy. So it's good that you're trying!

Congrats to you, Gwen! I honestly don't think I will ever run, unless zombies are chasing me, and someone in front of me is carrying a plate of donuts! No, seriously, my knees are too screwed up, but maybe in a few months I can walk at a normal pace! That would make me happy!
