3 months and half way!
This week I hit three months post-op, and was thrilled to learn that I have reached the halfway point to my long-term goal.
I started at 305 lbs last April, when I first met the surgeon. I lost about 15 lbs on my own before starting a three-week Optifast diet in late September. On surgery day I was 277 lbs. Yesterday the scale told me I am 227 lbs.
I saw my nurse and dietician on Thursday. My clinic is not very supportive of sleeve surgery (RNY is the standard) and I was warned MANY times that I would lose slowly because of the sleeve. Yesterday the dietician told me I was expected to lose 60% of my excess weight by 6 months. She didn't know I had the sleeve and I didn't bother to correct her.
I still have a long way to go, but I was pretty stoked to hear that I'm already at 40% lost! Not bad for a lowly sleever lol.
It has been such a surreal experience. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would lose so quickly and feel so good.
Here's a round-up of my favourite NSVs:
- Sitting in the middle seat on the subway train and actually fitting
- Complaining to my colleague about not being able to cross my legs, then attempting it and realizing that I actually can, and quite comfortably
- Exercising for two hours at the gym and an hour later feeling like I could go back for a second workout
- Getting an edgy, shorter haircut without my head looking like a bowling ball
- Confidence! Not because of how I look, but because of what I've accomplished
- Putting on and removing my shoes like it ain't no thang
- Feeling my husband's arms wrap all the way around me
- At Christmas we went toboganning - I was terrified at first but it was FUN!
- This is sad to say, but since I changes my professional headshot I have been headhunted on Linkedin six times. I have two job interviews coming up this week, for jobs I never would have had the guts to go for before.
I feel so incredibly blessed and I can't wait to see what the future brings. Every morning I wake up ready for a new discovery or adventure, it's amazing. :)

My surgery is in 3 weeks, I am getting nervous. Are you glad you did this? It sounds like it. Was it hard? I dont know if I am over thinking it but am worried about the process to want to make sure I stay healthy etc..
