Is there such thing as actual Last supper cravings?

I am 3 1/2 days away from starting my pre-op liquid diet for my VSG surgery on 1-16-18 and this afternoon the major cravings has started. It is like my mind is telling me, "we should eat _____ French fries, Chinese food, donuts, etc... one last time before we can not have them for a long, long time." I am trying hard to ignore these, because I have worked so hard to lose 50 pounds prior to surgery and want to be successful, but I am wondering if this is just me or if this is a "normal" stage of this WLS journey? I am really struggling here...

This is completely normal, but you should do stick to your pre-surgical plan. You will feel so much better if you stick to it, and avoid those "I'm a failure" type feelings. Not that you would be a failure if you have a donut, but you get what I'm saying.

I wanted a burger REALLY BADLY the night before my two week pre-op diet started. Technically, I was allowed to have it because my surgeon gave me a very specific TWO week plan, but it wasn't on MY plan. So...I made a Boca burger with a thick slice of low-fat cheese and had some mustard and pickles on it.

Remember. You WILL have Chinese food again. It's not something that is banned; rather, it is something that is NOT going to help you reach any of your goals.

I read this about a week before my surgery:

Much love and good luck! You CAN do this!

It's common. A lot of folks call them food funerals.

Keep resisting. There is likely nothing you will not be able to eat in the future -- just plenty of things you shouldn't eat.

We all ended up here because we gave in to these cravings. Many peope regain a year or 2 after WLS because they start giving in to those desires again.

Sray strong. Beat those habits now.

My surgery was 3 days after my birthday, so I was on my liquid diet for my birthday. The weekend before my liquid diet started I DID go out to celebrate my birthday with friends at a neat restaurant. I had one meal, with moderate indulgence. Nothing like I used to eat prior to diet modification, but also definitely not the portions I eat post-op.

I have zero regrets.

So.. one meal isn't going to ruin everything. Having 50 billion last meals is a different story :)

Yes! I think I had a couple food funerals before my Pre-op diet. I also mourned food and was sad on some days during the Pre-op diet. My pre-op diet was 3 weeks liquid and I was the most miserable person ever, but you'll get through it. Stay strong!

Absolutely, but stick to your plan.

I had a three week liquid diet pre-op. Felt like a competitive eater the week or two heading up to day 1 of liquids. Made it all 21 days on protein shakes, the last day w/o any thing bu****er was hard. Looking back I see why I wanted to do it, but it was completely unnecessary and a waste of money. I would not have regretted missing out on that binge and have regularly eaten everything I did during the last hurrah.

I survived last night and the cravings seem to be less extreme today...I guess this is a one day at a time thing.

Its normal. I had my surgery day after Christmas and it sucked. On Christmas I was on a liquid diet and had to do the cleanse. I had a few food funerals, gained weight and had to lose it again. The last meal I had was at my favorite Chinese food restaurant. Didn't even it all. Didn't regret it either. Anyway, the cravings are normal. I wish you the best!
