Starting around 250, need some advice!
I am 2 months and 9 days out from surgery & have gone from 247 lbs to 208 ish (39lbs lost). I feel like I'm doing pretty well, and so do my docs. My goal is to be at 150, which I think is pretty reasonable. However my doc thinks it's far fetched and thinks I'll only be able to get to 180. I guess I understand their logic in not trying to get my hopes up, but I really want to get to 150. So I guess my question is, is there anyone out there that started around 250 and got to their personal goal of maybe 150 or below? Or anyone in general that can maybe reassure me and give me some advice about getting to my goal? I'm 5'5" for reference.
thanks!!!

honestly, you can lose as much weight as you want to lose.
The key is sticking to your plan religiously, like your life depends on it, which it does.
i don't know what your plan includes, but the vets here who have been the most successful short and long term eat high protein and little to no carbs, including fruit.
Someboccassional green non carbs vegetables.
no bread, pasta, oatmeal, cream of wheat, pastry, etc. and no alcohol, which is pure sugar.
it is all about what and how much you choose to put in your mouth.
It is not even about exercise. While good for our overall health, exercise really doesn't promote weight loss. I have lost 122# and maintainedvthe loss for nearly 8 years with no exercise at all.
So, yes, you can get to 150# but you have to be determined and dedicated and it has to be priority in your life until you reach goal.
Thanks Holly! How many calories did you eat a day during the weight loss stage? If you don't mind me asking
yes, there are lots of us on here who have done just that. A lot of us were told the same thing - that our goal was unrealistic. Granted, that's probably true statistically, but there are plenty of examples of people who have done it. You have to be really determined and super committed, though. Those last 30 or 40 lbs can be a bear to take off - but you can do it!!
This is totally possible. Just stay vigilant and you'll get there.

My doctor didn't give me a goal, and I am RNY... but
I am 5'5" tall... started at 260, and got down to 135.6 (usually sit around 136-138 except right now I've jumped a bit with the holidays up to 141). I'm also 52 yo if that helps.
You can do it! 150 is our 'normal' BMI weight, that's totally doable.
Don't sell yourself short, and don't let your doctor dissuade you from your own goals.

Thank you, you're inspiring!! How often do you exercise if at all? I hope I have similar results to you!!
For the most part, I don't. I do go to the gym in spurts... But I am more active. I park in the back of the parking lot, I take the stairs more, I just generally am more active.
Working out is great for your health. Building muscle is good in so many ways... But exercising does very little in the way of weight loss. Something like 80% of weight loss is diet.
Concentrate on staying low carb... Measuring your food ALWAYS... And getting all of your water in every day. And be as close to 100% on plan as you possibly can be, for as long as you possibly can be, because it gets so much harder as time goes on.
Good luck to you!
