We were released from Hospital Angeles and I was 3 pounds lighter, this morning and we drove our 10 hours home with two 30 minute stops for me to walk. My husband drove most of the way and I did about 4 hours of driving. At, first I had no pain and I was handling some small sips of fluids. Then I did began feeling fatigued and sleepy and a little pain in my biggest incision. I slept most of the way unless, I was driving and I still feel slightly weak an fatigued. I am a bit worried about my fluid intake as I can only take about six sips at any given time and it took my three hours to consume a quarter of a beverage. I got home and took a shower and took my blood sugar, which has remained in check since my Pre-Op diet. I will continue to post day to day.

Wow, driving for four hours so soon post-op seems very brave and dangerous!

Take it easy, rest when your body needs it. Set a timer to remind yourself to drink.

Yes Ma'am, well that is it with my process, I have not seen to many Vlogs on restrictions as far as any activities and my patient coordinator has not outlined any, I am scheduled to start work again on Saturday and I work 12 hour shifts. The only concern Terri told me about was heavy lifting and the Hospital did not mention any restrictions either. I drove until I got tired and I have been resting pretty well and being very careful with my incisions. Thank you for caring enough to let me know what to do more so, Ms. Gwen M.

Were you given a post-op diet progression?

Going to back 5 days post-op, for 12 hour shifts, might be unwise depending on the work you do. Many people find that they still get tired easily for the first few weeks post-op. You are recovering from major surgery, after all.

It is imperative that you stay hydrated - at least 64 ounces of liquids a day. In addition, you should work on getting 60-80g of protein a day.

In addition to not lifting heavy things, most of us are told that we're only allowed to walk for exercise for the first 6 weeks post-op.

I'm really shocked that you weren't given more information prior to surgery. That seems pretty negligent on the part of the surgeon and is scary to read.

I know, now that I have not been informed completely for my benefit. Before, I even went into surgery status. I spoke with my Patient Coordinators and told them the kind of work I do which is security. I do not have a stressful job and I will do a lot of walking spurts, which I was told was great for me. Yes, I do find myself tired at intervals throughout the day, but I take a vitamin with energy and it keeps me alert. I am learning more from the forums and Vlogs I view and praying on everything and taking it easy. I was told no working out for about a month, no heavy lifting over ten pounds, no one told me about driving and that is all the told me about working. I do however, have short shirts of days I only work Thursday-Sunday. I know I will be fine.
