Kinda freaking out here.

Today was my final weigh in for my 6 months requirement. In that time i've lost 37 lbs.. steadily losing or maintaining throughout. however, today for the first time I had actually gained weight- 1 lb from my last month's weigh-in making the grand total just 36 lbs. I'm kinda dismayed because i'm of the understanding that i can't gain ANY weight during the process? But i've also been told that as long as i don't gain from my starting weight that's what they look at. The first and final weight.. which is it??!! i'm dying over here! Can one pound actually make Aetna deny me? I'M SO SCARED! i've tried so hard with all of this. Has anyone actually been denied for gaining as little as 1 lb even tho by the end of it all you are substantially lower in weight from your starting weight?

i need help here.. or a stiff drink.

I think you should be fine. You have been on a good roll going down. You will have ups and downs even after you have the surgery.

Your dr.'s office deals with these insurance companies all the time, they should be able to tell you if it's a problem. Good luck!

I know several people that didn't lose weight beforehand and they were approved just fine. One woman I know lost 61 pounds and she was still approved. I gained 2 pounds the first month, and lost about 15 over the next 3, etc. I was approved in like two days.

Fluctuations happen.... I think it's more about a willingness to try and get through the process. You should be just fine!

I had the exact thing happen to me before surgery and I was freaking out too. Insurance companies look at the total weight loss before surgery (along with other criteria, i.e. psychology, nutritionist appointments).

I remember asking my center the same question and they said I should be fine. They also said they knew patients that didn't lose weight before surgery and were approved.

I totally understand how you're feeling... it's an emotional roller coaster waiting for the approval!

Keep us posted!
