Rebound effect
Docs will sometimes use an H2i medications like Zantac or Pepcid as part of a PPI weaning off regimen as it helps control acid by a different mechanism and they don't have the same rebound effect. If one is taking a daily PPI, then one may drop that to every other day, substituting the H2i, then cut back the PPI again, then cut back the H2i, etc.
A caution on these things, is that heartburn is only one of the noticeable symptoms of GERD - it can be there without heartburn, and can potentially do some damage, so it may be a good idea to have an endoscopy done a year or two later to see if anything is happening. Talk to your surgeon or PCP about this.

Thanks for the advice. I've already experienced, some of those atypical symptoms such as stomach gnawing acid presenting like hunger pangs. I will definitely tread with caution and speak with my surgeon.
