Advice on choosing a date, please!

Personally, I would have it ASAP. I spent way too many years being obese. I was ready to begin my new life. By July you could be at your goal weight or pretty close.

I can't argue with your logic here, Laura. On the one hand, the OP will only be four weeks out and might feel that she can't enjoy her wedding + honeymoon with the recently post-op eating restrictions but, also in theory, the OP will start therapy NOW to work on getting into the right mindset so that won't be a problem.

And, like I mentioned, the OP is likely going to need to get the garments for BOTH events tailored due to weight loss regardless of when she has the surgery if she starts making lifestyle changes now.

So.. I think your point of view is definitely worth considering.

And then there are the wedding pictures! Will the OP be happier seeing herself in her wedding pictures 10 years from now having already started to lose weight? I feel like she might be. Instead of looking at those wedding pictures 10 years from now and seeing herself at her high weight still.

I think if she were having the RNY or DS I might tell her to wait because we can have more issues post-op (due to the malabsorption), but I would think with the sleeve, you guys have less of that. Most of us regardless of our surgery feel a lot better by a month out. Tired, but most of the actually healing/pain is over. This way she could enjoy her new marriage instead of having surgery soon after that.

Just my $0.02.

That is a really great point too. I went to NYC 5 weeks post-op and was AMAZED at how much more functional I was. I could walk everywhere. I had so much energy. I felt AWESOME.

And, yes, if I were planning a wedding/honeymoon, I'd want to feel THAT way for those things instead of the way I felt pre-op.

Really great points, Laura.

Those are all good points. Thanks for your advice! :) I would love to be down lots of weight for my wedding photos of course, but it feels too risky cutting it so close. Since we are getting married on a cruise, if i had any complications I may not have all the medical care I need - needless to say that would suck BIG TIME to have going on during my wedding. Obviously I have high hopes the surgery will go smoothly, I won't have any complications and I will recover quickly, but there is no way of guaranteeing it. If it were a normal vacation, I would likely risk it. Since it's my wedding, even though I want it so badly, I feel like it would be irresponsible to make a decision without putting my health first. Especially since all my guests are booked already! I wish I had moved forward with this surgery sooner, but alas my choices are limited now. :(

You probably won't be feeling at your best just 4 weeks post op, and I'm sure that's not what you want your wedding day to be. I would be waiting until after the wedding, at least.

UPDATE:

My surgeon offered me Jan. 9 for a date, but I'm worried since it is so close. If I went ahead with the surgery on Jan 9, and my wedding is April 1 (April fools day, I know haha) can I expect to have to drastically alter my dress? Anyone have any opinions on whether or not that would be do-able? Or if it's an awful idea?

Thanks again. :)

Awesome!! You will feel great by your wedding. Stop stressing!! Just do it!

Go HERE to see what your weight loss might be by month 3. A good seamstress should be able to alter your dress.

Thanks so much! :) I just had a look... it seems like I can expect a 25-30ish lbs loss in those 3 months, so it shouldn't be a super drastic change in size!

I think you should go for it if you feel prepared, mentally, to have surgery now.
