There really isn't going to be a good answer to this. Everyone handles pain differently and the variables of the surgery itself is going to be different. Where the incisions are going to be, how big the cuts are, how they heal, what nerves are involved etc.

What I can say is that the pain is only temporary and that you CAN get through it.

If you fall down you just have to get back up.

I think I am more concerned about that gas pain that everyone mentions.

Annoying, but also tolerable. I had this too, which radiated up into my shoulder. Walking will tremendously help this.

I just had mine Nov 21 2017 and got out thanksgiving day and Black Friday I was shopping. Breath through the gas pain. Get gas strips if you need it before had. I didn't use it. Passing gas and walking are so important. I'm still sore day 6 but no serious pain. You will be okay love

Gas pain was the worst for me. I walked a lot, took pain meds & gasx the entire 1st week, then i was good to go. Good luck!

Everyone is different, but I didn't need any pain meds once I left the hospital the day after surgery. Good luck!

Yes, thank- you everyone for your responses. You are all wonderful and have been a great source of information for me in the last several months. Sounds like we are both ready for tomorrow and very excited! I have to be at hospital at 5:30 for a 7:30 surgery. I don't imagine either of us will sleep much tonight. Brendie be getting surgery tomorrow too. Please let us know how it goes for both of you.

They have really, REALLY good meds for pain, and don't be afraid to use them. You should only need the strong stuff for less than a week before Tylenol, and some discomfort for another couple of weeks. It's not that big of a deal.

What threw me for a loop was how lethargic I felt for several weeks. Even the pictures on the television moved too fast for me. My recovery was flawless, but I was a cheap date for anesthesia. Fortunately, I took 8 weeks off and I started feeling like myself at around 6 weeks post-op.

Drinking is the hardest chore, but nothing to be ignored or worked up to. It is literally a full-time job to get in 64oz of fluids. Everything tastes like crap, too, so finding that flavor and temperature that doesn't suck is key.
