As far as using the bathroom goes.. Do any of you have problems using the bathroom as in taking a poo? I dont go like I used to but now its not as regular and almost feels as if I am packed up and makes everything uncomfortable. I take fiber tablets and stool softeners. Just wondering if anyone went through the same thing or had any advice.

I take a half a dose of Miralax every morning in my coffee as approved by my surgeon. Works like a charm.

I also do 1/2 dose of miralax every morning. Works like a charm and is safe for long term use.

I had a lot of trouble for a while. I was doing milk of magnesia plus stool softeners. I was able to stop the MoM, and then slowly wean myself off of the stool softeners. I've been back to my normal self for a couple of weeks. I've definitely had those days when I felt really constipated. I wait for the weekend and then take more MoM. TMI - I've also had to disimpact myself. Not fun, but it was necessary. Thankfully I'm regular again.

Aside from stool softeners, three F's for a "good healthy.." are:

  • Fiber
  • Fluids
  • Fat

If you're still eating extremely low-fat, stop. I'm not saying to suck on a stick of butter, but don't eat food that is artificially processed to be low fat. Be sure you're getting your 64oz of fluids in, and if you can't eat much fiber, then look to supplements.

Valerie nailed it. My surgeon told me: low carb, high protein and don't worry about the fats. That doesn't mean to eat greasy fried food, but not worry about eating low fat. I have a smidge of real butter or a drop of olive or coconut oil in things. High fiber also helps tremendously. I go pretty much every day and although (TMI) the amount is much much less than it used to be, it makes sense since I am eating much much less than I used to be.

Oh... and yes, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! (edited to add this).
