Slow to lose but close to 400 lbs

New to this site...I have a question and wanted to get a little reassurance. I had VSG on 10/23/17 and had to do a 2 week clear liquid only preop diet. I started at 430 at the beginning of preop, was 404 the day of surgery, and am 391 today. I have been slow to lose after surgery and not sure if my body is still adjusting or what. Anyone have any experiences they can relate or wisdom to share?

Thanks!

Sarah

First, congratulations on the decision to have VSG and your weight loss! I was 439 at the start of preop diet, 415 on the day of surgery, and felt like I was hardly losing anything the first month. Keep in mind that you lost 26 pounds two weeks prior to surgery, which is a lot! My doctor had to remind me of this. Your body is also still adjusting to significant trauma with surgery. You've probably heard of the 3-4 week slump, which is also happened to me and quite natural. The weight will come off. Just focus on healing for now :) Best wishes to you!

Many people experience a stall within the first month of surgery. Search the forums for "three week stall," it's very common.

Slow and steady is the name of the game. Most people lose a larger amount in the first two weeks, then it drops down to 1 - 2 lb per week (maybe a little more if you have a lot to lose). Any faster can be unhealthy!

Keep doing what you're doing and stick with it for the long haul!

I started at 217 (labband to sleeve) and had my surgery on 10/24. I lost about 12lbs right after the surgery and then didn't lose anymore for 13 days. Not even 1 ounce. I have finally started losing again. My husband had the same thing occur when he had his sleeve.

Best of luck.

what are you eating? Are you getting 64 + oz of liquid a day?

I'm eating at least 60 grams of protein a day, usually closer to 70 and eat between 600-800 calories. Carbs are usually under 40. At least 64 oz of water a day.

I was told sometimes after a fast weightloss your body almost has to play catch up. Maybe that is what is happening. You had a pretty significant weightloss, as long as you know you are doing what you are suppose to, I wouldn't worry. Sometimes our body likes to hold on to fluid at certain points in the month as well.

Congrats so far! Don't fret over it too much (impossible, right?) Weight loss speed is going to fluctuate a lot during your journey. Just keep following your surgeon's guidelines and you'll be fine.
