Hi,

First I just want to thank those of you who have taken their time to reply to my other crisis posts lol. I appreciate it! and I'm glad this forum is here for advice and support.

I had surgery on 10/24 and am currently down 41lbs ... ( I'm down 61lbs since my pre op diet in August) I'm still having trouble taking my vitiamins, they make me completely sick.. but i will see my nutritionist and surgeon for the first time since my surgery, for my follow ups this Thursday.

I know my weight loss will slow down and I've done good with fitness pal apps in the past. I'm wondering if you use any apps strictly for VSG ..like a protein tracker? I'm just trying to find out from those who use apps.. which have been successful. There are so many options out there!

Thanks

I use MyFitnessPal. It tracks calories, protein, carbs, sugar, fat (and a bunch of other macros and micros) and is customizable (You can change what you are tracking and you can adjust the number for your goals.) It also allows you to track your liquid intake and exercise. The database is huge (but do double check before you use and entry as some are incorrect).

It also allows you to enter a "recipe" so you can figure out what the nutritional info is. I find this very helpful as I do a lot of cooking and make up my own concoctions. You can also save "meals" so if it is something you eat on a regular basis, you can just click to add.

The one draw back is that it does not allow you "complete your day" is you eat under 1000 calories. Frustrating when we VSG'ers only eat between 600 and 800 calories a day.

There is, however, a mobile app as well so you can use it on your phone as well as any computer. I did pay for the premium version as I liked the benefits.

I don't.

I use TrendWeight which is amazing since it lets me track the trend of my weight instead of day to day fluctuations. I highly recommend it.

If you aren't already, try taking your vitamins with food. That helps me - my multivit nauseates me otherwise.

I do use a lot of other apps like Zombies Run!, Yoga Studio, the app for my Nokia scale which is something like Healthmate. I think that's most of the health/fitness apps I use.

What type of vitamin are you taking? Pill or chewable? Does it have iron in it?

A regular vitamin pill without bonus iron, something like Centrum, seems to have a fairly low chance of nausea.

I am taking nature made multivitamin, b12 and then a calcium pill too. These are all in solid pill form. I also take thyroid meds and I can' take them during the same time. So I called the Dr and the PA called back and said to check with the nutritionist..which I have an appt with her on Thursday. Maybe I can switch to the patches or something but taking any meds really make me sick!

Is this the one you're taking?

That one has iron in it. Sometimes switching to one without iron is easier on your stomach.

I use MyFitnessPal. You just can't close out your day with our low calorie targets because they want to discourage those with eating disorders from using their site to meet their unhealthy goals.

I use Baritastic. It can be connected to many bariatric programs, even thought mine doesn't use it. I just prefer it over MFP. I can tell it to track net carbs instead ot total carbs, which I like a lot.

It'd be cool if there was an app that kept track of vitamins or trends that was aimed at the wls market, but I think the market is too small or maybe not enough profit in it. I know that mfp does have a premium app that you pay for & can tailor your macros, not sure if the vitamin portion is in there.

I think most health apps target the general market, but some of them might have options to tailor it to your needs, but like Cecily mentioned it's the liability & lawsuits companies have to guard themselves against.
