That's interesting to know, that you felt it was fairly accurate. For me it wasn't. I'm curious though, when you had the actual RMR test did it rate you as having a fast/normal or slow metabolism?

I was rated as having a fast metabolism so that maybe why.

Somewhat slower than average for my age/size. They attributed it to me bring about 15 months after WLS.

I had RMR tests with each of my dexascans (4) over the last 2 years. Even on the first one when I still had some weight to lose I was rated as a fast metabolism and I was 15 months out from surgery as well. It's all interesting...

When I had my TT there was no fat to remove - I only lost a pound of skin (after 105 pounds of weight loss).

Did you have a DEXA scan before your TT and after? My PS said I'll have 1 1/2 - 2lbs of skin to remove tops and my body fat was 21% about 10lbs ago. I'm interested to see what it will be after. I'm having another DEXA the day before surgery.

I didn't have a Dexa until about 6 months after. They are VERY expensive around here. But my PS said there was no fat to remove, just hangy skin (and I was pretty sure about that too). I was the same weight at the time of surgery and when I had the Dexa which said that I had 23% body fat (considered "lean" at my age).

I did adjust my comfortable zone for the PS weight afterwards (from 116-119 down to 115-118).

Anyone know if dexa scans usually covered by insurance? How much do they cost?

the ones doctors refer you to are, but usually you have to be over a certain age and they usually just give you bone density, not body composition.

the commercial ones that anyone can go to range in price. I've seen some people on here get them at universities for like $50 - and others pay commercial outfits around $100-200. I paid around $150 for mine. Our university charged about the same, unfortunately.
