Gee Thanks, Urgent Care!
I had to go to Urgent Care this morning due to The Sinus Infection That Would Not End and I don't know about the rest of you, but my Urgent Care place gives me this stack of print outs whenever I go.
And it's TOTALLY AWESOME that one of them says, "Hey, you're fat, here's what you should be doing to lose weight." :P
1. Like I didn't know this?
2. Like I haven't been coming to this same Urgent Care place for years so you can clearly see I've lost 170 pounds during those years?
3. Like maybe instead of a passive aggressive print out the doctor should have, I don't know, talked with me about this?
Then I also got a print out saying I've got pre-hypertension even though the nurse told me that my blood pressure was "great" and I'm sick, nervous, and stressed so, yes, my BP is slightly elevated compared to what it normally is.
I really hate those print outs :P

Hm. I don't think that's the case here since both the printouts listed lifestyle modifications that had nothing to do with medications. And both were given to me with no comment by the doctor.
I think their intention is good with these but, as a friend of mine said, "print outs have no bedside manner."

My husband works for a company that does Population Health Management for doctors and medical practices. These organizations get huge tax incentives and sometimes money back from the Federal government to push these "measures". Based on how many patients in a year they "talk to" about certain medical issues (including weight). Yes, in most cases just handing you the print out counts for completing the measure. It's an entire racket. I hope you feel better!

I can definitely see how this could count toward meaningful use requirements in a "letter of the law" sort of way. Sad times!
