Morning VSGers! It's a soggy wet mess here today! The good news is, I have a paper to write and a pile of laundry the size of a house. I will be heading out later for book club though. I took a Crossfit class yesterday and also got in a 4-mile hike, so it was a really nice day. I wasn't terribly impressed with Crossfit and we got lost on our hike (but found a nice hunter who got us out of the woods). I find Crossfit to be terribly pukey - I don't know what it is about it. I work out quite a lot and it still was just too much all at once.

QOTD: Do you belong to any clubs/groups? I'm in a book club and that's it. But, I've considered joining the Booster Club or PTSA at the kid's school. I always waver on it because of work, class, and life. I'm afraid I can't add the additional commitment. It's sad though, our area has very few interest groups. We were researching things to do in Chattanooga when we visit in a couple weeks and were just blown away by the number of hiking/trail running/walking groups that are available.

Good morning,

Another rainy day here in Michigan. Yesterday it supposedly snow some but it was gone when I got up. They are talking about snow on Halloween.

Qotd do not belong to any clubs but I'm interested in this senior center that has a lot of activities. I need to set that as a goal to go check it out.

My plans today are to travel home (ahead of the storm coming into the northeast US). I am leaving the hotel at 5:30 am and will be home on Cape Cod by 7 pm. The conference was good. I met up with Cecily C. from online OH. I really enjoyed meeting her and the sessions yesterday were excellent. I skipped the after party since I had to get myself back on east coast time to travel today.

QOTD: I would like to join a book club now that I am retiring. I love to read and have never had time for one. The social interaction would be good too.

I have to say that logging in each day and reading what y'all are up to is good for my soul. Even on the days I don't post. Thank you all for being here and taking the time to share.

Today is my one month surgiversary! I'm down almost 100 since starting the journey (7/13/17) and down 35 since the surgery.

QOTD: No clubs or outside groups for me. Until very recently, my life was consumed by work. And my husband owns two businesses so in addition to my "regular" job, I also manage his businesses. We'll see how much time I have once I start working again.

Got sick yesterday so today we are on liquids, mild and soft foods.

Congratulations Ladyblu, 35 pounds since surgery and 100 total is amazing!! Coming to OH daily has been good for my soul as well. It's a good feeling to know others have the same struggles and triumphs. I really enjoy reading about everyone's daily life, esp. on the menu thread.

Good morning! It's a rainy mess here today. I found someone online who is looking for an early morning walking partner. I was hoping to meet her today but I don't think that's going to happen. I'm not crazy about the idea of meeting a stranger in a park on a dark morning.

QOTD - we haven't been in our town very long (about 18 months). There's a local gardening club, as well as a knitting group that I would like to join. The library has a lot of great programs too.

Good morning! It's super gross outside today! Dark and gloomy still at 9:40.

Yesterday I FINISHED EVERYTHING that's due tonight by midnight! I never thought I'd get it all finished at all, much less by Saturday. So I'm feeling awesome. I also picked up the auto-recliner that I'm borrowing from a friend for my upcoming surgery.

QOTD: I belong to a Cookbook Club! When that article was posted a friend of mine said "We need to do this!" And I said "We will make it happen!" So we did. We did everything wrong the first year (2016) - invited everyone we knew, picked dates, and let people vote on cookbooks. Then most of the people who voted didn't even show up, so what the heck? And some of the cookbooks really sucked. This year (2017) we decided that we'd do "host gets to pick the cookbook" and that hasn't been optimal either because two people picked ancient cookbooks. Then one of those two people flounced because of DRAMA. WTF, right? My co-organizer and I need to talk at some point about 2018. I think that we're going to a) cull the group a lot and b) institute a rule of "original publication date must be no earlier than 2000" for the cookbooks :P (Since the entire goal of this was to get to try out NEW cookbooks.

I also belong to some Democratic clubs in my area, but I haven't been able to attend meetings much this year due to surgeries and school. :/

3: aforementioned cookbook club!! I'm hosting this one and the theme is Ottolenghi (he has a number of cookbooks published and I couldn't choose, so people get to pick any Ottolenghi book/recipe). I'm making: Turkey & Zucchini Burgers with Green Onion & Cumin; Spiced Chickpeas & Fresh Vegetable Salad; and Chocolate Fudge Cake. Everyone else has claimed super tasty sounding things too! I can't wait. :D I got the cake started last night and it's finishing up in the oven right now (it had a two part bake). After I finish my breakfast shake and morning internetting I'll get going with the other recipes with the help of my sous chef, Art.

I'd love to be in a book club but this area is so strange due to being CommuterLand. It's really hard to find time to make plans with people who spend at least 2 hours a day commuting. :/

But I know a person who belongs to a book club where they don't actually all read the same book. They just read and then come together to talk about the books they've read. That's the sort of book club I want :D

My book club has been meeting every 6 weeks (skipping any Decembers that come up) for 5+ years. I don't mind someone else picking a book, as I've read some good ones that I wouldn't have otherwise have chosen.
