So I got VSG on 10/24 and guys IM HUNGRY. I also don't feel like myself at all. I don't regret it per se because I know what the future will hold, but FML I just want to fast forward time and eat like a human again. Wish I could skip the second week of liquids and go straight to Apple sauce and baby food! Any tips ?!?! I'm soooo bored.

My VSG was on 10/18. I'm hungry too but no regrets. My new best friend is chicken or beef broth. I've made a shopping list for Stage 2 and I'm looking forward to it! We knew that this would be hard work. I've only lost 15 pounds and thought it would have been more. Hang in there! Our new stomach has to heal. You can survive but I do understand your hunger.

15 pounds is amazing! Congrats! I'm transitioning to full liquids Tuesday. Then I'm bringing on the purée! Can't wait!

15 pounds in 10 days is AMAZING. How much were you expecting to lose?!

Well that includes the 2 weeks of preop diet and now 10 days of post op liquid. I guess I expected more. I've seen such significant loss from others here. But I'm being realistic. I know everyone is different.

Tough it out. I remember the days very well. I was sick to death of following the plan, and I wanted real food. But even more, I wanted to SUCCEED. I would get through each phase by counting down. "Only X more days until I can eat food that is more real".

I am 11 months out from surgery. I have been eating normal food for almost 10 of those months. I have lost 200 lbs by following my plan. It will pass quickly enough.

I think what you're dealing with is probably just head hunger. Add that to the fact that what we always did before when we were bored was eat, but now that option is off the table (if you'll pardon the pun!). Now is the time to find other things to keep your mind occupied in place of food. Sewing arts...crochet, knit, needlepoint, embroidery, etc. If you don't know how, then now is a good time to learn. Paint, read, draw, play computer games, start a journal, redecorate the house, start a collection, or do something you never had time for!

It's time to refocus your attentions and learn to be the best you that you can be! I renewed my love of crocheting and reading. Then when you can move more and exercise, you can walk, dance, take a class...the possibilities are endless. And as you lose weight, there is always going to thrift shops and looking for smaller clothes that fit.

It is very hard at the beginning, especially during the clear liquids phase. I did 21 days total of clear liquids...2 weeks before and 1 week after surgery. You'll get through it, and one day it will all be a distant memory. Hang in there, the best is yet to come!!!

Keep your head in the game - focus on the outcomes, focus on healing. You need to follow your plan so that you won't damage your new stomach.

As for the hunger, at this point it's often due to dehydration or stomach acid. How much liquid are you getting in each day? Are you taking a PPI such as prilosec or nexium?

I'm drinking 48 ounces of water, eating ice, jello, and sucking on frozen watermelon. I'm not taking a PPI. Doc said to take it only if there's gas.

Frozen watermelon? Is that on your plan?

You should be getting at least 64 ounces of liquid, but protein shakes count toward that. How much protein are you getting?

Most all of us take a PPI after surgery for many months because our stomachs start off producing the amount of acid they're used to producing, and that needs to be controlled until the stomach gets used to the new size.
