Almost 1 week post op and looking for some full/clear liquid ideas. So far I have had vitamin water zero, premier protein shakes, old fashioned h2o, broth and some really tasty watered down cream of mushroom soup sans mushroom bits.

Clear liquids:

  • Crystal light
  • Mio drops
  • Miso soup
  • Egg drop soup with the chunks strained
  • Hot and sour soup
  • Sugar-free popsicles
  • SF jello
  • SF hot apple cider mix

Protein shakes are a good choice for full liquids. You can add flavorings to them to make things interesting! I put orange Mio in vanilla shake to make creamsicle, or raspberry mixes with chocolate. You can add instant coffee powder to chocolate shakes to make mocha, too.

I tend to like savory. Pho soup (broth only). Wonton soup (sans won tons). For sweet options, I did the Walmar****er enhancers: Tangerine grapefruit - Mango peach - Raspberry Lemonade. I also began drinking flavored teas (de-caf) but you may want to check with your surgeon as some herbals may be off-limits to you at this time.

You'll get through this!

Yes! The first thing I wanted when I got home was the broth from my favorite Pho place. I am craving more savory than sweet which is the opposite of my pre surgery cravings! I also bought some veggie broth and used ramen seasing packets for flavor and added some water to stretch it out. It's more sodium than I want but for now it will work. Thank you!

I also fight the sodium monster. I try to keep it tamed by alternating homemade broth and the higher sodium options every other day.

I also discovered Sam's Choice Vegan Protein Broth. OMG, it is good. Throw in a scoop of isopure unflavored protein powder and you have a low cal, low fat, low carb, HIGH protein delicious treat that goes down easy in the first few weeks. I have found it in Walmarts that are located in the nicer neighborhoods.

Yesterday I had a drinkable yogurt, it was heaven. But I need to find a low-sugar version.

If you're in the US you probably have more options.

I've also had cottage cheese blended with milk to make it runny. Lots and lots of peppermint tea!

How about some cream of potato soup? High carb count but I am okay with that during the full fluid stage (once I reach puree I'll be dropping my carb intake).
