scared....
hi! thank you. I just wanted to talk to you and fess up. well I went to my 1 month check up and found out I've lost only 23lbs. I was hoping for more. 95% of the time I have been doing great. but....Oct 1st i went to mexican and ate a handful of chips and salsa :-( this weekend I had out 15 bbq chips. so I am extremely worried I screwed up my sleeve and totally let my self down and worried I will not loose from this surgery and headed down my same unhealthy path! at ONLY 5 weeks out slipping scares me. have you ever slipped up and felt guilt or like u ate more then u should have?

23lbs in 1 month is AMAZING! We all eat imperfectly sometimes and guilt doesn't help anything. That said, I wasn't even cleared for solid foods yet at 5 weeks out and your sleeve is still very much healing. Sharp foods like chips can be really dangerous before your stomach is fully healed. The most important time to follow your surgeon's plan is the first two months while you are healing!
I think it's probably good to be scared - but only so far as you channel that fear into something productive. Are you working with a therapist to help break the cycle of self sabotage and guilt?

You should be scared. I don't say that to be a jerk, but now is the time where you will have the greatest amount of willpower. You will never again be as resolved to say no as you are now. You need to say no and get to goal, even if it means hanging on by the skin of your teeth.
I have a friend who had RNY less than a year ago and she's gaining. It's a real thing and it's terrifying.

Yes! Stick around and listen to the tough words. I've been here every single day since I came home the hospital after surgery. I asked some questions that I got tough answers to. I figure sticking around here like the vets have gives me a higher chance of success right?

What has really helped me is becoming active on the VSG Menu Thread. I am on it everyday, some days I can't post, but am always reading. Staying connected to everyone, reading their struggles and triumphs has helped me stay on track and get back on track when I fall off....accountability. Everyone has such interesting and unique protein ideas, ways to exercise, how to increase fluids, vitamins, dealing with stress and depression, celebrating victories, etc. Maybe give it a try??
