Sensitive to smells

Does anyone else feel like they are more sensitive to scents now?

I was in my friend's shop and they started their cars that they were working on and the smell of the exhaust and other fumes made me really nauseous. I'm use to these types of smells but ever since my surgery I feel like I'm so sensitive!

Totally not uncommon. It'll likely pass!

It happens fairly often after surgery. Anyone I know that got the hypersensitivity to smells all had it disappear after a while.

Yep - I had that hypersensitivity for the first 1-2 months, then it went away. I wondered if it was my bodies reaction to eating so little (it heightened my sense of smell hoping that food smells would entice me to eat more?).

I can't recall if it's surgery related, but I'm highly aware of smells that others don't notice. It doesn't make me ill or anything, though. My husband calls me the family bloodhound. It goes hand-in-hand with my taste buds, too. I can taste preservatives and other artificial ingredients, etc, and this has been lifelong for me.

Not a problem I've encountered... but 17 years of CPAP therapy has wrecked most of my sense of smell.

It's very common. I was on vacation at five weeks post op. I couldn't stand to be near my sister (cigarette smoker) because I couldn't take the smell (even when she wasn't smoking). I am a former smoker too...It passed after a few months. Hang in there.
