Question Regarding Protein Powder and Hot Liquid
Hello all,
I had my VSG last Friday and don't see my NUT until Friday, but I wanted an answer today and Google wasn't offering up an answer.
I know that adding unflavored protein powder to a hot liquid makes for a lumpy chewy mess. However, today I added it to 98% fat free cream of mushroom and overheated it (making for a lumpy chewy mess). BUT, I ate it anyway. I realized it didn't taste bad (at least to me). It was like adding ricotta cheese (the whole milk kind) or non-tangy feta cheese. It was actually quite good. Had it been hot chocolate or a sweet drink it would have been nasty, but close my eyes and it was actually tasty.
My main question is: Does it change the absorption of the protein? Is the protein ruined? I'm thinking that adding it to tomato soup would be like adding a bunch of ricotta cheese and I could definitely deal with that over zoodles once I graduate to real foods again.
Thanks in advance,
Diane

no heating doesn't bother the protein value
No, the heat doesn't bother it. I heat my protein on an open flame in my backyard -- steak. It doesn't hurt the protein at all.
Follow Cathy H's advice about mixing protein, and you can avoid lumps.

I don't see a problem with it, either. If you do want a warm smooth protein drink, though, make a slurry with a little lukewarm water and the powder so it's smooth, but thick, then add it to the rest of the liquid and heat at a slower rate.
