This is what I wanted after surgery as well. A ride home, my own house and someone I could call if necessary. It worked out great.

Honestly, there really isn't that much you would need to have done for you. I mean sure they might make your food and bring it to you ... but to be honest you should be getting up and moving around yourself and making your shakes and broth is the perfect opportunity. If I had a choice between someone fetching things for me or the peace and quiet of being alone while I recovered ... I'd prefer to be alone since you will be sleeping allot due to the pain meds and the weight loss process itself. The only thing that your parents seem to have to offer that would have been nice .... a recliner to sleep in. I made do sleeping on my couch with a bunch of pillows to lean against (I didn't lay down flat to sleep for 3 weeks)

The worst part of the recovery process for me was getting up and sitting back down, that was a bit painful. Once I was up I was fine and once I was settled back down I was fine. So, I typically made myself food after I went to the bathroom because I was already up.

If you fall down you just have to get back up.

This is all great to know! I do think I'll probably be in the same category of not wanting a bunch of fuss and people around me, so staying at my own place seems preferable. I think they actually have two recliners, so it's possible I might be able to borrow one of them for a few weeks....

I was left on a medication after my surgery that should have been stopped. So about 8 days in I had an extreme blood sugar drop. It's a good thing that my Husband was there to get help for me because I couldn't get up. If I hadn't been on the medication I wouldn't have needed any help. I think it's better not to have someone bring water and stuff to you, since we need to get up and move around a lot.

This is great to know! And a good point about needing to get up and move etc. I'll have people in the city I can call, and I don't live alone, so it seems like staying at my own place may be the preferred choice.

My surgery was at a hospital 6 hours away. Hubby and I stayed an extra night there in a hotel before driving home. I had an easy recovery and no issues. Lots of people have to travel for surgery. I would just stay home and have somebody on call just in case. GL Diane S
