Hello everyone! I am 6 weeks post op today, and I would like to ask what you all were eating at 6 weeks? My NUT says I can eat normal foods now, but for some weird reason this makes me nervous. I have been eating tuna salad, egg salad, (chicken salad makes my tummy hurt), yogurt, cottage cheese and 2 premier shakes a day to meet my protein and liquid goals.

Lets see.. my diet progression was 2 weeks full liquid, 2 weeks puree, 2 weeks soft solids. So I was also able to eat regular solids at 6 weeks post-op.

Dense foods are where the restriction of the VSG really shines, but definitely expect to eat smaller amounts :)

I definitely recommend that you don't try anything new to your stomach while out of the house. Try things at home first :) Just in case.

I think I was about 8 weeks when I was cleared for everything but I would just try one thing at a time. The last thing I tried was steak at about 4 months out.

This question is asked a lot. You should search and see if you can find some of the posts. I know I've responded with an extensive list at some point or another when I could remember back that far!

This is similar to my progression. Here's my advice: Don't force yourself to transition or it will hurt. Take some time between bites to allow it to get to your stomach and let you know if it's going to be ok. Make sure the protein you try isn't dry. I used broth to make sure it was wet, and made sure to chew and chew and chew. And one more nugget--even once you feel like you've transitioned, be very mindful. There were days I would eat and not feel a thing, then eat the same thing the next day and couldn't finish half of it because it suddenly hurt. Basically, baby yourself and really listen to what your body is saying.

I had surgery the day before you, and I was allowed to start eating solids at the 5th week (so it's been almost 2 weeks now). I've been pretty adventurous with protein so far - I've even had steak (cut very small and chewed for eternity). I can manage about 3-3.5 oz of dense protein. The only problem I've had was with something spicy. I'm still eating cottage cheese (mostly because I realized how much I actually enjoy it with lemon, salt, and pepper). I'm also eating tuna and chicken salad because it's an easy high protein lunch, but I'm just mashing it instead of putting it through the food processor. Part of the reason I've been eating more real foods is that I was getting really tired of making two dinners every night. It also helped that I started with fish and eggs, and since I was successful with those, it spurred me on try more. Just pay attention to your body and take it as slowly as you need to.
