Pain meds

I have no idea why, but my surgeon wrote me a whole bunch of prescriptions my last visit and said that I had to pick them up within 7 days (even though surgery is not until 11/7). Anyways he wrote for liquid Tylenol with codeine). Seems a mild pain killer for such a drastic surgery. What do you think? As a nurse, most of my patients in the past haven't been too impressed with this for pain. Do you all think this will cover my pain?

I had to pick up my scripts several weeks before surgery (I think they were prescribed at my appointment 2 weeks before). They were for Lovonox injections, protonics, and oxy. I do have a high pain tolerance, but I didn't need to take any pain meds once I got home.

Oh that is great news! Hoping I'll have a similar experience! Thanks.

I didn't take anything stronger than Tylenol when I got home the day after surgery and had an Rx for dilaudid. I came home with protonix, dilaudid, colace (in case I used the dilaudid) and an anti-nausea drug - I don't remember which one - which I took once or twice post op.

I had surgery on Tuesday, was home on Wedensday and back at work (desk job) on Monday. I have a fairly high pain tolerance, but also had two c-sections. As compared to c-sections, this was nothing! Wishing you an easy surgery!

Keep on losing!

Whoa! Back to work that soon? I need that because the Short term disability isn't going to cut it around the holidays! Thanks for sharing.

I didn't take a single dose of pain killers (I had a prescription for liquid Vicodin) once I left the hospital. I wasn't being tough, I just totally didn't need it. Not even Tylenol. I didn't find it to be a painful surgery at all.

Now ask me how quick I was in the ER to get a Dilaudid drip and a prescription for morphine with the kidney stone I passed the following month... That experience changed how I categorize my personal pain. On a scale of 1 to 10, VSG surgery was a 2-3 at most. The kidney stone was an 11!

Uggg yes I've heard kidney stones are awful. This is very comforting. Thank you.

Exactly. Stones are definitely in the 10 range, VSG was like a 2-4, maybe.

PS, they often have you fill the prescriptions as early as possible as many pharmacies don't stock the "hard stuff" and need a few days to order it.
