One-derland, I understand and empathize with your "second thoughts". Common and NORMAL.

In particular , i want to respond to your comment " i will probably always hurt". I too thought that. I clearly remember the day while working into work a few months after WLS, I came to complete and dazed stop as i suddenly noticed I WAS JUST WALKING ALONG WITH NO PAIN WHAT SO EVER!! And I had a knee replacement and headed that way for the other one. My knees no longer hurt.

I pray you have the same sudden realization some day - it was the very best outcome from the surgery.

Oh - and did your surgery date change? Since I think the date listed in your info is more like 30 days away, not 23! (I had a moment of panic because I'm having surgery 5 days later and am not ready for it to be only 28 days away.)

I know exactly how you feel. I wonder now if we all don?t struggle with a little apprehension. I?m a nurse and I also see all the negative outcomes so imagine my anxiety. After researching, the chances are very slim that anything will happen, and negative outcomes are significantly reduced by being a compliant patient, taking your blood thinners, taking your vitamins, adhering to your diet specifications, not advancing too soon, walking and moving post op. In short, do what your surgical team says! Keeping you in my prayers. You?ve got this!

Aww, I read through this and had to smile when you talk about your son. My son was also my number one reason for going through with VSG, and probably everything else in my life. My shape is also my "genetic makeup", but my eating habits and BED are what really got me there.

I was really scared before and after surgery. Sometimes I still get a shock when I think of the change I've made. Making a list of "why's" including your son, but also including more reasons will help. And it's super helpful to read it when you're feeling low. Try including stuff you would do, if you weren't heavy. My list has some sad things, but mostly very joyful things. For instance, I can't wait to try a trapeze class. I also look forward to reading a story to my son's first grade class without feeling embarrassed.

And, I have to say, take pictures. I made a poster board with my monthly pictures from a month before my surgery to now. I wore the same tank and shorts and the change is crazy. It's been my single biggest visual motivation. Plus, it's so much easier to see change in photos than just in the mirror.

I'm sending you good vibes for your surgery---you've got this!! hugs
