Amazing! Wonderful! I so love it. I'm an intensely competitive person and this is the most fun in sports I think I've ever had (and I was a nationally ranked athlete in my teens.)

Fencing is an amazing high intensity work out. I'm 56 and started fencing 6 months ago - and I'm getting ready for my first tournament on Sunday. We compete (after age 40) by age groups - so while Sunday's event is a mixed veteran event, everyone will be over the age of 40. At national competitions, it is broken down even more -- women and men by decade - so I fence Women 50-59.

It's 3-dimensional chess with puncture wounds and bruises. It is intensely physical but requires that you be fully present in the sport when it is happening because everything happens in a fraction of a second.

I live in the Philly area and we have a few fencing clubs. Generally, when you first start, you can borrow all the equipment you need from the club. At this point, I'm buying all my own stuff and starting to upgrade some of the first things I bought (which were my younger daughter's - I started using her gear.)

This evening, I'll have a 30 minute private lesson. (Before that, I'll do about 15 minutes of yoga/stretching to warm up.) I'll have a half hour break after my lesson before class starts - which will start with 20 minutes of half court basketball to warm up, stretching for another 10 then we move to footwork. We will do footwork for about half an hour and then start with offense/defense drills with our knickers, jackets and masks on. We take a short break after about half an hour of that (5 minutes) and then have open bouting for 30-45 minutes in 3 minute/5 point rounds.

I'll burn probably 1400 calories tonight, which will more than earn a bourbon and a half a bagel when I get home.

Keep on losing!

HOLY MERDE! That sounds like one helluva workout! I think they offer it at the local community college and have thought of doing it in the past. It just seems like there are never enough hours in the day between work and my furr-kids. Maybe I should just take an aerobics class...

Using Merde on the strip will get you a yellow card as a warning the first time. The next time, it will get you a red card and a point to your opponent! ;) Working of breaking my really bad profanity habit - I don't want to be the first person from my club to lose a bout due to repeated F&*(_ !

Keep on losing!

That's when nearly everyone hits a stall! Fear not. It'll start moving again.

Good morning everybody! I had my 7 month check up with my surgeon (first appt since April). He was shocked that I had lost so much and worried I might be having trouble eating. Uh, no. And he said most patients take a year to lose this much of their excess weight. Huh. Has he met Erin?

He asked how much more I wanted to lose and I said about 13 pounds (I was down another 1.4 this morning somehow - probably dehydrated from moving back to the dry, hot air). He said I probably shouldn't lose much more than that or I'd look too thin. All I could think is, you don't see me naked!

Otherwise, his only concern was the GERD I experience off the PPI. I will have an upper GI next week and if I still have a hiatal hernia, he thinks we should repair it. Argh.

I asked about plastic surgery and he said don't do anything until 1.5 years after my WLS. Come on August 2018 !

QOTD: My favorite author. Hmm. There are so many! I haven't ever gone to hear one speak though...could be fun.

B - coffee and yogurt

L - going out with a friend, so not sure

D - leftover chicken

Happy Wednesday everyone,

Just another Wednesday - still pushing on with the diet - slowly but surely. This morning, as I looked disappointedly at the number on the scale, I remembered the many decades when I believed that I'd never be below 300 pounds again, much less under 200. Its important to keep the perspective. 176 is not bad... though I'd really like to be under 170 before leaving for South America.

breakfast - salmon

lunch - buffalo chicken spaghetti squash

dinner - phily cheese steak sloppy joes.

snacks - pudding, a glass of wine, and an atkins peanut butter cup

You are right!!! I would have been well over 300 today if I had not had my band in 2003. You can definitely get those 6lbs off before you leave.

Good morning. Halfway through the week! I felt very unproductive yesterday in the office because I was working with everyone on work transition (my retirement and the department reorganization).

Gwen's QOTD: I read books by all different authors and if I find one I like I try to read all their books. I'd travel to meet Stephen King. I think he is a very interesting person.
