Update Six Months Post Op

I can't believe I am already 6 months post op. I had my surgery March 15.

I've lost 115lbs overall, but 99lbs since the start of my liquid diet (March 1).

I'm really happy with my weight loss, so is my doctor. I was told to expect slower weight loss going forward, which I've been told before, so that news doesn't surprise me. I don't expect to lose what I have been the last six months, which has been 10+ pounds a month. I would be lying if I wasn't hoping for a couple more months of that, but I don't expect it. I'm hoping for about 8lbs give or take a bit for a while more. I hope that isn't unrealistic. I would still like to lose about 80lbs. So nice seeing the need of weight loss in two digit territory not three lol

Recovery from surgery was ok. I had bad gas pains for the first week, but other than that, just your typical tiredness, and tenderness at the incision sites. I have luckily had no complications thus far. No acid reflux, even though I have no history of that, my husband has gerd, and the chance of developing that was a bit scary. I don't know if I'm out of the woods with developing acid reflux/gerd, but so far so good. I was a bit nervous to come off my PPI's after two months, but have not had a problem since.

The first month was the toughest. Emotionally I felt all over the place. Getting use to or adjusted to all the changes, which is really a very gradual pace over the first few months to now. At least for me it was. Soft foods at day 28, then other restrictions came off at 3 months, and the rest just came off, so its nice I can finally have my red meat I have been craving all along lol Plus, corn on the cob, which i got to see everyone eat through out the summer. Have not had that yet, but now I'm in no rush. Yup, can have the food, now my brain doesn't care about having it so much lol

I admit, I'm not 100 percent use to my capacity (for the most part I am), but my eyes are still bigger than my stomach. I do have the odd day, I wish I could pig out like I use too, but I'm glad I can't!

I noticed a bit of an increase in capacity these last couple weeks (believe it or not I was complaining about the lack of an increase about a month or so ago lol). I think hearing what people can or did eat at certain points of their recovery and so forth can be somewhat of a guideline; however, there are so many factors that there is no way to know how much you'll be able to eat at 3 months, six months, a year and then some. What one person can eat at 6 months, may not be what you can eat. Just have to go with it and listen to your body when your satisfied.

So far it has been a challenging/difficult experience at times, but so rewarding and amazing too!! One of the best decisions I've made in my life.

I haven't been this weight in over a decade, and yes I still have a ways to go, I am feeling so much better, physically and mentally about myself. I don't get winded or out of breath as often. Don't sweat as easily. Fitting into smaller clothes, and not completely avoiding getting my picture taken so often lol

I wish I had done this sooner, but I can't do anything about that, I just have to be happy with where I am now in life, and proceed on with the rest of my WLS journey and my life in general.

Like I said best decision ever!

You're doing great!! At 7 1/2 years out, I still have the "eyes-bigger-than-stomach" syndrome, where I put more on my plate than I can eat. Not always, but a LOT. :D
