Weighing vs measuring

I find a food scale more accurate than measuring cups for tracking purposes. You can fudge a lot with a rounded measuring cup! But especially early on, measuring cups can save you from the pain of eating more than your new stomach can hold. I have been a food weigher for years before surgery, so once I was a better judge of my stomach capacity, I switched to weighing. Maybe at 6 weeks or so?
It's definitely more accurate. I switched to baking by weight a few years ago when I saw an article about a test kitchen that asked people to measure out a cup of flour. When they weighed them after, the range of weights was really wide.

I started weighing once I started eating solid proteins. I specifically asked my surgeon about whether I should weigh or measure...the response was to weigh anything that was not liquidy. So if I can weigh it, I do. I use it for portioning. I can eat no more than 4oz of solid protein and maybe another 1oz of another solid food like veggies. If I want more veg, then I only eat 3oz of protein. I even weigh salad dressings and mayo and anything like that as well, and I use grams when I can for more accuracy. The only thing I use measuring cups or spoons for is like my half and half for my coffee. With more accuracy you're going to get a more accurate calorie count as well.

I use the scale for all protein. I'll eyeball the amount I think I can eat, then stick it on the scale so I know how much to log in MFP.
The only thing I measure by volume are veggies. The calories are generally so low that it doesn't matter if I'm off by .1oz!

I used volume when I was doing my liquid and puree phases. Then I transitioned to weight once I started eating "real" food. I weigh for portioning.
