Anyone eating around 1k calories?

I do not agree that many people have to eat between 1000 and 1100 to maintain. I eat about 1650 calories per day and maintain 148 lbs. I also rarely exercise and am in my mid sixties. So there's hope for those of you who think you must starve yourself the rest of your life in order to be a healthy weight. At least that has been my experienced

While that is your experience and valid, Julie's comment that many people maintain on 1000-1100 is accurate. If you have followed the daily menu post for any length of time you will see that is true. Is it an absolute? Of course not but Julie said 'many' not 'all'

I am also one who can eat more than this guideline, but we are definitely not "typical".

How far out are you? Have you been here on OH long? It looks like this is your first post, but maybe you have another account. I have been active here for 10 years. Sadly many people maintain on much fewer than the "goal weight times 10" estimate. It is why we see so many regain posts.

We all need to figure out what works best for us as individuals and even then as we get older these numbers can change.

Possibly I'm a freak of nature (and in fairness I've got more muscle mass than most, having been a competitive powerlifter before surgery), but I'm 5'4" (although height doesn't actually make much of a difference as far as basal metabolic rate goes), still losing, and definitely routinely eating 1000-1300 cals/day without any extensive exercise.

I'm 5'3" and my maintence (for 115-118 pounds) is 1100-1300 calories (on average). I lose on 900-1000 calories. Try varying the number of calories daily to average at 900-1000 or less. Sometimes I think that keeps your body guessing.

I agree with not eating the same number of calories daily. An average range is better.

I am 5' 3" and 158lbs. I have lost 98lbs since starting process of pre-surgery, surgery, and post-surgery.I am one year and 9 days out. I slowed down and then stalled starting at about 10months. I increased my calories to 1000 - 1100 a day which put me in maintenance. I just decreased my calorie counter back to 850 today. I would like to lose 15 more pounds. I am pretty muscular from my years of weight training so 143 will put me at a solid size 6 which would be a dream come true!

Every person reacts a bit differently to the amount of calories they consume. Weight lose is really a mathematical function. Burn more calories than you eat = weight loss. Your body burns total calories based on different factors - muscle mass, resting weight, movement, exercise, etc.

It really comes down to how many net negative calories you take in a day. If you are not losing on 900 - 1000k a day you have to try to cut back about 100 calories a day to see if that helps. i also am finding it really hard to eat less than 1000 per day. My plan is to go shopping today to buy low calories food to fill up on. My Nut said the best approach is to go back to foods that you ate early after the surgery...lowest calories for the most protein.

Feel free to add me as a friend if you want to support each other since we are fighting the same struggle right now!!
