September Monthly NSV Thread

Sometimes our WLS victories come in forms other than downward movement on the scale. Or they happen after we are in maintenance and are no longer wanting the scale to move. So this is a new monthly thread to celebrate your NSVs (non-scale victories).

If you're excited about it, be it a big deal or a little thing that made you do a happy dance, tell us and let us cheer you on!

Celebrated our anniversary in Seattle this weekend and walked nearly 20 miles in 2 days...we gave each other matching fitbits as gifts! It was a lot of fun!

I literally ran around Nantucket to change our ferry ticket, get to the Inn, grab our luggage and run back to the ferry dock. The ferry we were originally booked on was cancelled and we had VERY little time to change it and make the new time. My feet and knees did NOT hurt and I wasn't out of breath!

I have two NSV so far for September. Pre-op I barely squeezed into a XXXL shirt. I am in a XXL now. My wife brought home some XL shirts because they were on a crazy good sale. She said "The goal is for you to be in those by next summer." So I decided to try one on.....just a little snug! Give me 3 weeks and I'll be in those.

On Friday, I stopped by my wife's work and her office door was shut. I sat down at her assistant's desk. We have known each other for 3 years. Had the normal how's the kids type conversation, about two minutes in she asked what she could do for me today. I said I need to sign something for Jessica(my wife). She said, "Can I get your name, sir." Ha! Her jaw hit the floor when I told her it was me. Made my week!

I was walking with my dad and not one, but TWO cars along the way driven by people we know stopped to remark on my weight loss successes. The first one was wondering who the "skinny young woman" was walking with my dad then gushed about how great I looked. The second asked where the rest of me had gone and said I looked "fabulous". I needed to hear that today because I don't necessarily see the progress in the mirror but only how far I still have to go.

I went through my tracker and found that I have walked 91 kilometers in the past 10 days. That's about 56½ miles!

As of Monday, September 4, 2017, I've (purposefully) walked 800 kilometers (500 miles) since January. This is only counting actual tracked walking sessions.

Getting out of an Adirondack chair always made me feel like a turtle stuck on its back when I was overweight. With it being so low to the ground with your rear significantly lower than your knees, they are hell to get out of when you are carrying a lot of weight particularly in your stomach. Today I realized I can easily get out of one gracefully! What a nice surprise.
