August Monthly NSV Thread
on 8/18/17 7:43 pm
Sometimes our WLS victories come in forms other than downward movement on the scale. So this is a new monthly thread to celebrate your NSVs (non-scale victories).
If you're excited about it, be it a big deal or a little thing that made you do a happy dance, tell us and let us cheer you on!
I used to wear 3XL Tall shirts; now I wear Large.
I used to wear a tight 42 pants; now I wear a loose 36.
I can no longer shop in the Fat Boy Store; they don't have any clothes in my size.
I can walk into a normal clothing store and simply buy something that fits.
I used to get winded walking up three flights of stairs in the parking garage; now I do hundreds of flights of stairs a week.
I used to get tired walking through the grocery store; now I literally walk at least a 5k six days a week.
I walked a half-marathon a few weeks ago. (13.1 miles)
This weekend I will walk 26 kilometers... and enjoy it.
I have saved $4,500 on medication (including two types of insulin) so far since surgery. Now the only medication I take is for my allergies... $13 for a year's supply at Price Club.
I was diabetic; now I'm not.
I've had to get two new driver's licenses, because I dropped below my fake weights.
Guys and gals check me out every day.
I have an ass! I have hips! I have to pay attention when I get dressed or cause a public obscenity!
I feel amazing! I'm happy, energetic, and enthusiastic! I'm freaking out my family and friends because I'm so damn perky, after being a dark rain cloud for 30 years.
That's all I can think of for now.
"Friends are like flowers; no matter how well you pick them, they all eventually die."
Let's see if I can remember what happened in August (so far):
- I hiked an 8-mile long hilly trail all in one shot
- I had a DEXA scan showing I now have below average body fat for my height, weight, and age
- Measuring around my husband and I standing together no longer equals my starting waist measurement
- I bought a size 2 pair of jeans and a size small shirt
- I tried on a $1,400 outfit in some crazy expensive boutique that I'd never dream of being able to fit into
- I entered maintenance
- I ate a cupcake (which doesn't sound like an NSV, but serious control issues make it very hard for me to "let go even a little", so a few bites of cupcake of a step forward actually).
Looking forward to seeing what everyone else experienced in August!

A big one for me this month was being able to sit very comfortably in the auditorium at my work. These are little tiny seats and every August all 500+ employees have to squeeze in for a campus wide meeting. Before I barley was able to smash in a end seat where I could hang over into the aisle. Last year it was better but still not really comfortable but this year I was in the middle of the row with co workers on either side and I had my legs crossed and had plenty of room on either side of me in my seat. I have gone from being the largest person in my department to the smallest. Even after almost two years I still get amazed at things.
Had VSG on 9/28/15
Lost 161 lbs since surgery, LOST 221 lbs overall so far!!
on 8/19/17 6:36 am
I wore shorts and was completely comfortable
I was carried around by my husband
I bought and wore size 4 pants
I recommitted to closely tracking my food
I wore a bathing suit and was comfortable
I allowed pictures to be taken of me and didn't care if they were posted on social media
I'm excited that I had an upper body lift and mastopexy on Monday and that today, five days later, I'm feeling AWESOME enough to go out to see a movie in the theater!
And my boobs look AMAZING.
