Tummy Tuck, YAY or NAY?

Hi everyone,

I'm super excited because my surgery is next month BUT i do have a concern about lose skin.

I know a couple of people who have had VSG. One person got a tummy tuck and arm lift before VSG and she looks amazing. The other just got VSG and didn't get any skin removed...she looks good, but of course, she has a bit of lose skin.

Have any of you gotten VSG and chose not to get skin removed?

Another concern that i have is i want to try to get pregnant after I reach my 1 year mark. With that being said, i feel like getting a tummy tuck before pregnancy might just be a waste. Any thoughts???

Not sure why you'd get plastics before VSG because massive weight loss usually causes loose skin. But if it worked for her, that's amazing.

I had TT about a year after VSG and had lost about 140 lbs total. I'm in my late 40's so didn't have to worry about pregnancy. Everything I read during my research suggesting waiting until you have all your children before investing in a tummy tuck because it is quite expensive and pregnancy may diminish results. Especially multiple pregnancies which might then require a revision, if you can afford it. I say do the surgery only once, after you've lost all your weight, had your pregnancies and lost any pregnancy weight and are maintaining.

I have no regrets about the TT. AT ALL.

If you needed breast reduction due to health reasons before WLS, that would make sense. Doing any urge reconstructive surgery prior to WKS makes.m no sense at all. Your weight loss will just compromise the results and you'll end up needing to have for a revision.

Wait until you've lost weight and had kind - then investigate reconstruct surgeries.

I wouldn't consider doing it pre-op. Someone I know did that and it worked for her but that's definitely not what I want.

Apparently you also shouldn't post a few days after reconstructive surgeries. Sorry - my reply was totally spastic.

Yes, wait until you reach goal and have your kids.

Ive done my first two rounds of reconstructive surgeries so far and don't regret any of them. Looking forward to #3 so I can be finished!!

I had VSG, lost 140lb, and didn't have enough loose skin to merit plastic surgery. I often wear a compression cami because I have some tummy jiggle, but it didn't bother me enough to get a tummy tuck.

I also got pregnant 1 year after surgery, and I can assure you that a pre-pregnancy tuck would have been an absolute waste. The good news is that my stomach skin was already so loose that being my post-pregnancy tummy jiggle is hardly any worse than it was after losing so much weight!

Many surgeons recommend you wait on plastic surgery until you're done having children.

I'm down 142lbs from my high weight and I will be having a lower body lift and breast lift at some point. The rest of my skin has bounced back pretty awesome.

I plan on plastics eventually. I even had a consult after the last time I lost weight (pre-vsg). The plastic surgeon thought he would need to remove about 9 vertical inches of skin from my stomach. It didn't feel that bad until I heard it stated like that! So circumferential body lift, arms, breast lift for sure and possibly thighs.
