Pre surgery eating habits

Just wondering how many of you actually avoided carbonated drinks and chewed their food 20-40 times before surgery. I know it will be necessary after surgery.

As soon as I started in the program I began actively working on reducing the carbonated drinks, I had completely removed them by about 6 weeks pre op. The chewing I worked on too, but I found it didn't really hit home until after my op. I still will occasionally forget and that sledgehammer feeling in your chest is a great reminder of why we need to chew - chew - chew.

I didn't. I still don't chew that much. But I don't drink carbonated drinks since surgery because I'm not sure it would be comfortable.

I had my last Diet Coke the day before surgery. To be fair, I had my first one after surgery about 3 months post op. Carbonation has never bothered me (or not at least by 12 weeks out).

The chewing I really didn't work on until after either.

LOL. I'm addicted to Diet Coke (being a diabetic). I don't drink coffee so that's my caffein. It's going to be really hard not to have it for a while.

I avoided the carbonation religiously.

As for chewing, I had difficulty with that the most. It sounds really dumb, but it took me weeks to be able to chew 20-40 times. I was so used to eating fast 1) being from the east coast and 2) having BED. I still have difficulty now. I also, apparently have a severe cross-bite which you can't see, but which greatly impacts my chewing. Surgery actually is how I found out.

I will say that it is a far more pleasant experience to eat if I do chew more, so I tend to remember these days more often than not.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

I gave up caffeine the day I decided to pursue surgery (15 months ago) and haven't touched it since.

Chewing has never been an issue, though I had to learn to cut smaller bites of food.

I drank my last Diet Pepsi 2 days before surgery. At 3 or 4 months out I tried some kombucha and couldn't handle the carbonation so I haven't had anything carbonated since. I never counted chews.

I have not had any carbonated drinks since surgery. I didn't avoid them before. I have never counted chewing, before or after surgery.

I had cut out carbonated drinks long before I decided to have surgery. As for chewing? I've never counted, but I did practice eating more slowly.
