Lifting restrictions immediately post-op

My husband is scheduled for sleeve surgery 8/23. At the pre-surgery class, the patients were told that immediately post-op, they were not allowed to lift more than 30 pounds. 30 pounds! Does that seem too heavy to anyone else?

Note: I'm 2 1/2 years post-op, and I can barely lift 20 pounds. But then I'm 65yo and 5'1". Very confused about this issue.

I feel like I was told a much smaller weight for the first 6 weeks. Like.. 10 or 15 pounds.

Yeah, my restriction was 10# for the first month... ended up with lots of frantic "HONEEEEEEEEEY, please come get the cat off of meeeeeeee!" calls.

I was told 8-10 lb lifting restriction for 6 weeks. Because even though it's laparoscopic surgery your stomach was still cut lengthwise and stitched. Need to respect the required healing for that incision/staple line.

Surgery: April 30, 2014: HW: 288 SW: 250 Achieved Goal 149 lbs: April 8, 2015 CW: 158 lbs (working on losing 65 lb regain as of June 1, 2021. Weight was at 215 lbs). Fighting every darn day!

Mine was nothing heavier than a gallon of milk (a little under 10 pounds) for eight weeks.

I've seen a few thousand people mention their restrictions on here over the years. About 99.9 percent of them are ten pounds for 6 weeks. I've never seen a 30 pound limit.

6'3" tall, male.

Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.
