I would like to know how long does the procedure typically take and what is the normal recovery time?

Mine took about 90 minutes, but that is slower than normal. My surgeon repaired a hernia while he was in there and he likes to take his time, he isn't one of those surgeons that races through surgeries just to see how fast they can go.

Recovery -- it depends on what you consider "recovered"! Are there any particular milestones you are looking for, such as driving a car, going back to work, moderate exercise, just getting over the weakness and fatigue that comes with surgery?

I went back to work (mostly desk job) after a couple of weeks but was still pretty tired at that point. I was up and walking and able to take care of myself within a couple of hours after surgery though.

My surgery took 1-2 hours and then I stayed overnight in the hospital. The next morning I had a barium swallow test and got to go home.

What are you looking for in terms of recovery information?

I had the surgery on a Wed afternoon and was able to leave the hospital on Friday morning. Surgery time was a little over an hour.

I have a desk job and could have gone back to work in 7 days, I get full disability with my position so I took 2 weeks off.

I was fortunate that I did not have any post op issues that can impact recovery time.

I was in surgery for 2 hours and spent a night in the hospital. In the morning, I had a swallow test, passed, got some water, then broth, then tuna salad, and was discharged.

I was off pain medicine day 3 post-op and went to work a week later without any issues.

Surgery was about 1.5 hours. Stayed overnight, took swallow test the next morning, was given clear liquids to consume (which I was really interested in) and was released home. My job as well gives me full disability for a few weeks so I took time off just to get into a routine. Physically could have returned much earlier but after 20 years at my company I took my time..lol. Plus I work at home(bonus!!!)...everyones journey is different. Good luck ..peace & blessings

My surgery was about 2 hours because there was a small complication that needed to be fixed. I was in the hospital for 2 nights. I was able to venture out into the world (albeit slowly) 5 days out and the pain was manageable. I didn't feel pain-free until maybe day 12 though.

From the first cut to incisions closed, mine was less than an hour, with a hiatal hernia repair. Home the next day, out shopping on day 4, back to work day 11 instead of 15 because I was bored.
