Whatcha Eating Today VSGers? Wednesday 8/2/17

Off to the dentist this morning, then working from home the rest of the day. At least at home I can turn up the temperature a bit and not freeze like I do at work.

I enjoy our "family" (the two of us plus our two best friends) Wednesday dinners, but since I don't always get to pick the meal it'**** or miss. This week the vote was spaghetti, so I'm on my own (yet still having to fix their dinner and my dinner...) which is vaguely annoying to me. I've never liked spaghetti, so I'm not pissed about that, and I don't mind making the sauce (a several-hour process), but I'm still a bit sensitive about having a loaf of french bread in the house.

B: protein shake

L: leftover hummus and chicken

S: protein shake

D: family spaghetti night... looks like I'm having chicken and salad :-p

E: will squeeze in a 5k walk today somehow, probably walk to the store this afternoon to get my protein shake snack

When we do spaghetti I make meaty sauce and then just eat that while other people eat it over pasta. Would that work for you?

I've thought about it, but it's really calorie dense and I don't want to worry about reflux. Tomatoes and I don't get along well since my late 30s... kind of killed my interest in Italian food, really.

Ah, that makes sense! (Sucks, but it makes sense.)

I also make a meaty sauce and meatballs and serve the sauce over sauteed zoodles. ( spiralized zucchini sauteed in olive oil and garlic, a great substitute for pasta.

That works for some, but I'm not a fan of zucchini (or any of the squashes).

It also crosses into the "replacement food" territory. It's safer for me not to go down that road at all... I committed to changing my diet, and "healthy" versions of old trigger foods are just a step away from falling back into those foods for me.

That is key, finding what works for each one of us. This is not a one size fits all lifestyle change.

I hear you on the replacement food thing. I know that they work for some people, but I'm better off just skipping them.

Well, dinner was a success. I even managed to cut the loaf of french bread and not eat the whole damn thing then and there. Stuck to my plan - I made a big butter lettuce salad with chicken, and garnished it with various crunchy veggies. Still under 800 calories today.

Was able to sneak my walk in today by using it as an excuse to walk to Sprouts - 6k total. Picked up some interesting low calorie dressings that ended up being absolutely delicious... the non-fat Wasabi Dijon dressing rocks my world, and it's only 40 calories for 2 tablespoons.

Felt like making a dessert, so I bought an angel food cake, and garnished it with fresh sliced pineapple, blackberries, homemade ginger whipped cream. Topped it off by making vanilla pudding (with heavy whipping cream of all things...).

Not to worry, I had a small piece of just the angel food cake... since I've gone into ketosis, I don't have any sweet tooth at all, it's not even remotely tempting. the sweetest thing I eat are my calcium chews.

Ever thought to try making zucchini noodles or zoodles? In place of pasta? Or using spaghetti squash?
