Thirsty
on 7/27/17 11:25 pm
I was wondering if this is temporary or permanent... I am never ever thirsty. I know I have drink 64 ounces minimum a day, and I struggle to do it, as can only do a limited amount at a time. And I know my body needs liquid when my mouth gets dry, like during the night. But since surgery I have never once felt thirsty. Never ever. It makes drinking a chore, as I drink because I know I must. But I find it strange. Even on hot days, no interest in drinking at all.i haven't felt hunger either, not once. Three months out.... and I have heard hunger returns eventually. But wondering about thirst.

It's very rare for me to be thirsty, but I attribute this to the fact that I'm always sipping/drinking during the day. I've always been told that if you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated.

I'm with you mostly. I was never thirsty immediately after post op but when I got back on my Concerta, the thirst came back. I remember when I was on Vyvanse, that made me very thirsty. Similar drugs, but I think Vyvanse is stronger and lasts longer.
Me too - I think I was often borderline dehydrated prior to WLS, but now I drink all the time so I never really feel "thirsty". Though I do seem to go for more liquid first thing in the morning.

I am pretty much always drinking something. Coffee (mostly decaf), water, Bai drinks and the occasional Diet Soda. I pretty much never feel thirst. I think that means you're generally doing ok if you don't. I can probably count one hand the number of times I've felt genuinely thirsty.

I'm another one that is always with a drink in hand (decaf or flavored waters 99% of the time)... I have found, that after a year, I get panicky if I have left my trusty bottle of water at home... I hone in on the first convenience store I can find and I buy one of the bigger bottles of water. Those pesky 16.9 ounce bottles are now like a tease to me!
Maybe you are just staying hydrated? Or maybe it's just because you're still newly out from surgery and weird things are still happening to your taste buds and body?

I drink too, and try to be very consistent. But I remember what it was like to want to drink. Now I drink because I have to drink. And it feels unnatural. But I do it anyway. Just was hoping at some point that sensation would return, and I would want a beverage, at least some of the time.

I think it might have a lot to do with how much less sodium we intake now. Let's face it, in the old days, all that pizza, pasta, chips, etc, was loaded with salt. No wonder we wanted to drink all the time!
I'm like the others, I can only remember a couple of times of feeling "thirsty" since surgery and that was generally because I got really hot and sweaty, or ate too much salt...but it still wasn't the same kind of thirst I had before. Otherwise, I have a regimen of drinks I do every day, and I just drink them because I know I have to. On my days off, I struggle sometimes to get my liquids in because I don't keep to the regimen, and forget to drink when I fooling around at the computer or working around the house.

7 years out and my hunger has not returned.
I do get thirsty.
