How Long Before You Went Back to Work Post Op?
I had surgery on a Tuesday and went back 2 weeks later on a Wednesday. Glad I made it a short week because my energy level was really low. I think it is impossible to gauge how long to be off if you go by how you think you will feel, as it differs greatly for each individual. I believe 6 weeks is only for those that have serious complications, but hey, if you can take it off, enjoy the time and concentrate on what you should do to get better.

Some people are just more resilient than others. I took off 8 weeks, but my procedure was open, so my incision was just finishing the healing at 2 weeks post op. I couldn't comfortably wear a bra yet, let alone dress for work. I was off pain meds quickly, but incredibly listless for several weeks. Critical thinking I needed at work just wasn't going to happen anytime soon when I thought the pictures on the television moved too fast.

I took off two weeks for a mostly desk job. I probably should have taken a couple of additional days -- my first day back I hit a wall in the middle of the afternoon and had to call it a day and go home to sleep. But by the beginning of the third week post op I did just fine at work. Being at home for six weeks would not have been necessary for me.
My physician had me out for 4 weeks and I actually attempted to go back after 5 days since I work from home. I found that to be a bit to soon for the focus I needed for my job. My boss encouraged me to take the time I was approved for, considering I've worked at my company for 20 years.....so I took it. I took the time to settle into this new lifestyle. To get into a routine and really regroup. Physically I think most people can return after 1-2 weeks depending on the job demands. Whatever you choose...do what's best for you and your lifestyle.

Huh... I appear to be the exception. I was off for 7 weeks and, honestly, could have used one more. I was just so tired and everything was a chore for the first two months. I didn't even have any major issues. It was just adjusting to all the changes my body was going through with the surgery and learning how to eat and sleep, etc.

That does seem crazy excessive. I was out for a week and totally fine to go back after that week - but I work a desk job.
I would think it would be better to learn in cir****tances you're usually in, to form healthier habits?
