"Eat till full " & "Eat for 20 minutes" which is it ?

I have been eating until I'm almost full so about two and ahalf tea spoons (2+weeks out) but that usually takes me five minutes then I leave it. And do something else. & not eat for say 4 hours.
Am I supposed to stop then at that 5 minutes then when abit emptier eat again and do that till 20 minutes? Or am I doing it right stopping after 5 mins because I think I'm done. Obviously if I did 20 minutes and had breaks I'd fit more in. But I was stopping when full.
So can I just check which one I am supposed to be doing please?
Don't eat until full. Wipe that from your mind. It's just a horrible mindset. But if you do start to feel full, stop immediately.
A few spoonfuls may fill you now, but before long, you'll be able to eat a ton more. And waiting until you feel full will mean you are eating way too much.
Measure out portions and eat that. If you need to stop, fini**** later. Very soon you'll be able to eat it all.

Neither. Measure your correct portion and try to make it last for at least 15 minutes. (I was told to make my meal last as long as the people I'm eating with.) Don't eat until you're full - it takes 20-30 minutes for your brain to get the full signal from your stomach once it's healed so by the time you feel full, you've already overeaten.

Measure out your food and then try to eat slowly over the course of 20 minutes. Of course, if you're only eating 1 tbsp you may finish in 10 mins.
My bariatric program advised me that after 20 minutes if I was not done the food then wait at least an hour (to ensure I could get liquids in) and I could try eating more. They did not discourage eating more than 3 meals per day and encouraged small meals or snacks, but YMMV.
Do not eat to finish the portion past 20 mins. Even when on thick liquids like protein shakes post-op I would time myself. If I took a sip or bite at 12:01 I would watch the clock and take my next bite/sip at 12:03, etc and stop at 20 mins.
Edited to add: Of course, if you start to feel full stop eating. Never push to 'clean your plate' - its a terrible habit

What they said... look at volume primarily.
My problem with trying to hit "full" is that the nerves don't work right for a while after surgery, and my brain wouldn't get the message until I was several bites past "one too many" and I'd be absolutely miserable.
My surgeon wasn't too concerned with the 20 minute thing until I was onto solid foods. While on liquids and purees she said it would be hard for me to eat too much, and she REALLY wanted me to get my fluids and protein in, even if it seemed I was eating/drinking constantly.
Once I moved fully into solid foods, I started cutting my meals off at 20 minutes even if I hadn't finished my measured food. And even the slightest indication I had hit "full" had me at full-stop, because the one bite too many means 20 minutes of misery for me.
