Raw food

Hello VSGers,

I am 11 days out of my VSG and in 4 days I will begin my period of soft foods. Already at the purée stage and so far so good.

I know that ground meats are an option soon but I can't seem to find an answer on whether or not I can eat them raw. The only foods I'm craving are steak tartare and salmon tartare. Both are high on proteins which is great as I struggle with the protein powders and drinks.

would anyone have any experience or thoughts?

Thanking you you for your time and support,

Ghassan

I didn't have a problem with them, but some people do. I recommend asking your team. But if you do - make sure to keep the portion small and try it at home before you try it out!

My doctor said raw is fine for fish and ground meat - but not veggies until 8 weeks. I lived on sashimi when I got to the soft food stage. It's easy to digest, low cal and kept me feeling full.

Sashimi early out caused me to have a very violent vomiting reaction, almost immediately. If you do try it, do it at home! Every person is different tho. I can eat sashimi now at 2 months out, without any issues. Just the trouble is ordering a small enough portion, as even an appetizer is too much. I love sashimi tho. Just FYI, it's good and mushy, but later on, when you are eating normally, it doesn't give you the full factor of cooked food, like cooked salmon does. But it is healthy as long as you aren't dousing it with soy sauce and eating piles of ginger. And of course, no rice with your sashimi! I have it now about once a week and enjoy it. I do stick to the more basic types, like salmon, tuna, whitefish, and of course am very picky about the place where I buy it to ensure getting fresh fish. Last thing I want is a case of food poisoning!

Thank you all! Your advice has been just great. So happily I can say that I have tried the steak tartare with great success. Needless to say I get easily full, but between the Ground beef and raw egg yoke, I have really been able to increase my protein intake in a nice way. One of these days I will try a couple of slices of salmon sashimi. Hope that goes down as easily.

Thanks again,

Ghassan
