What does Gerd or heartburn feel like?

I never had either in my life, and also not since surgery. I was taken off oemprazole at my last appointment with my surgeon. But tonight I feel this odd, kind of weird and unpleasant sensation low in my throat, like a cold burn. Hard to describe, but I've never felt it before...

I very rarely had heartburn before surgery and now it feels totally different. For me it sometimes just feels like bubbles in my throat and sometimes like I'm just starting to get a sore throat, and sometimes like I'm about to vomit.

For me it feels like a burning, unpleasant, acidic feeling in my throat.

(And, also for me, it's not due to VSG, but when I've experienced it it's due to my fructose malabsorption.)

Mine is burning in my esophagus followed by burning in my throat that makes me cough like crazy.

I think it may be aggravated by coffee or by pesto. I notice the sensation more after having either of these. I bought some Zantac as the surgeon suggested taking it if needed. Never tried it before. We will see.

Zantac hasn't worked for me. It does at first, but wears off before the 12 hours is up leaving me acidy and uncomfortable for a few hours before I can take it again. I hope it works for you! I can get by with a 15 mg Prevacid every other day though.

I'm not sure Zantac is working. But I will continue to try this week. I still have the oemprazole in my cabinet but worried about long term side effects, and the doc said I didn't need to take any more. Of course, that was based on the fact that while on it I didn't have any symptoms! Will raise with him at my next appt. what is the difference and efficacy between Prevacid and Zantac?
