I woke up wearing it after the surgery. But if you didn't get one you can buy them off amazon (I found on as an example)

If you fall down you just have to get back up.

My program also has no purée phase. The surgeon said patient compliance was so low that they no longer recommend it. After all, who likes purée? Top surgeon, large hospital bariatrics program. I transitioned to soft foods but really limited the first month. Yogurt, soft Refried beans, cottage cheese and always liquids first. Don't try and advance the diet too quickly and follow all the advice. By month 3 I was able to eat a little more but nothing too heavy. Month 4 was when I could tolerate more.

That's so weird to me the "patient compliance was so low" that we changed our recommendation. Why'd you have the recommendation in the first place?

I remember when I saw my practice's new NUT at my 2nd year appointment she told me "yeah, we let people snack now since no one was sticking to the three meals a day, no snacks rule anyway." And I'm thinking "just because people are non-compliant doesn't mean you should do away with a recommendation you think is best practice!"

In my case, I'm sort of curious to know if results have changed between the "3 meals no snacks" patients and the "it's okay to snack" patients.

My plan also allowed snacks but I never planned them in. From the beginning, I found the 3 meals are plenty to keep me satisfied so I still just have my 3 meals.

Every once in a while if I stay up really late and it's been more than 5 hours since I ate, I'll need to grab a cheese stick or something, but it's a rare occurrence.

That's how I am too - including the cheese if necessary :) While the NUT basically told me, at that 2 year appointment, that I could add snacks, I figured why change things if it's working for me? I figure if I need to add calories at maintenance I can add a 4th meal, but right now? Seems unnecessary.

For the purée, they found most people could tolerate soft foods like yogurt and no need to purée since patients hated it. They never thought purée was best practice; it was just leftover recommend from early surgery processes. Snacking was explained that they don't want patients going more than four hours on an empty stomach. So they don't recommend snacking in my plan unless your schedule means a long time between meals. Then they say to add 100 cal or less of protein. If I need a snack, it's usually an 80 cal Greek yogurt or piece of cheese. No more than 3 meals and 1 optional snack if needed is the protocol for my program. They absolutely say not to do 5 or 6 small meals like I hear people doing.

Heh - this would make me wonder how many other recommendations were leftover from "early surgery processes!"

I hear what you're saying. I don't know but it didn't seem that strange to me since they've handled thousands of patients at this center and the surgeons have been involved in years of research and clinical trials. I think all surgical procedures/recommendations morph over time. Since the thread started with someone in a different program, it looks like they're not the only ones. But I'm sure other places probably still have it as part of the protocol.
