Laying on your side?
Sorry, I can't say I remember. I know did with a pillow prop while still in the hospital after surgery, particularly on my left side (major incision on the right). But once I got home I don't remember which makes me think a) I have been able to all along or b) I was well treated with pain meds. or c) I didn't think of it as a milestone. You might notice I've 'logged' about every milestone as I become aware of it.

I think it took me a week or two. My back was pretty sore from not being able to sleep normally. I think I slept in a recliner the first 3-4 days at least.

It was a couple of weeks for me. There was a lot of "pulling" at the incisions when I lay on my side.

It was day two for me and I had to use a pillow to prop up my abdomen. Maybe lasted a week and felt like my insides were finding new places to reside lol.

I slept on my side the first night. I remember asking the nurses if it was ok. I wasn't in much pain, never used pain meds.
I'm sorry, I'm not sure about VSG... but with my RNY, I was on my side during my first night in hospital. It was tender, but like others have said... I can only sleep on my side. I asked the nurses if it was alright to do, and they said if it was comfortable for me then it is no issues.
