Nausea
So today is day 4. The day before yesterday the nausea started. Yesterday it averaged between 3 and 5, with an occasional spike to 6. I called my clinic, and an order for Zofran (Ondansetron) and I took it at about 5:00 pm. Poof! In 20 minutes the nausea was gone. This morning with in 15 minutes of waking the nausea was back at a 5. I showered and dressed quickly, took the Zofran. Then waited 20 minutes before taking my other required medication with yogurt.
I am now sipping on ginger tea.
The nausea is beginning to subside, but are there any ideas how to beat this demon into submission or thoughts about the causes? I remember that morning sickness was due to a build up of hormones overnight, and toast or crackers before getting out of bed helped.
I can set up the Zofran to take upon waking, if needed, but would love to hear other ideas. I'm sure this will go away, but in the mean time I need to find copping mechanisms.
Thanks.

How much liquid are you getting? Nausea post-op is often due to dehydration. Acid can also be a culprit and most people take a PPI for the first few months post-op.

If the ginger ale is carbonated it may not be your best fluid choice and as Gwen said it is really important to get lots of liquids.

Drinking water has not helped. I am sip, sip, siping. Yesterday drinking did not help in the least. Sitting did not help. Walking did not help. Riding in a car made it worse. Sip, sip, sip, sip... the only relief came 20 minutes after taking the first Zofran. I am taking Prilosec as my PPI, it is taken by putting the contents of the capsule in food. So during the first bites of my breakfast.
The Zofran does help once it is in the system. What I am trying to learn is 1) how to reduce the nausea first thing in the am while the Zofran is starting up. 2) any other ideas to beat this demon down. 3) why it happens.
Thanks for the thoughts

How many ounces of fluids are you getting a day?
For PPIs, it's recommended that you take them on an empty stomach, some amount of time before eating. You might need a stronger PPI too.

Yesterday I consumed 54 oz of water + 4 oz sugar Free jello.
Today I'm at 30 oz of water already.
My surgical team wants me to take the PPI (Prilosec) by opening the capsule and adding the content into yogurt or apple sauce. Every team has their own recommendations. I see my surgeon on Friday, and if needed someone is on call even tomorrow.

58 ounces is definitely not enough. You should be aiming for a minimum of 64 ounces and, with the nausea, I'd try for closer to 96.
