Day 4 Post Op Blues

Woke up feeling slightly defeated this morning, I have NOT been able to consume too much fluid ie: required 64 ounces. I can barely finish a premier protein shake and I finally got my prescription for Zofran due to excessive nausea. My stay in the hospital was (2) days due to fever after my surgery. I am able to walk to ease the pain from gas so I'm thankful for that but I am emotionally drained at day 4 and didn't think I would be in this mind set.

Trying to get past this hump because this is only the beginning

I'm sorry you are struggling, but it will get better. But you HAVE to find a way to drink. That's what's causing the nausea, and it's the only thing that will fix it.

Extra fluids will make every issue better. Try hot, cold, flavored, unflavored, and everything else. Something will work. Make it your mission in life.

It gets better. Really.

First few days are hard. Try to drink. Grim mentioned different temperatures, and trying different flavors helps too. I swear, in a few days, you will be so much better. You are going to have little challenges, but you are on the road to healthy, strong, able, capable, and free of many pounds weighing you down. Be patient with yourself. Try to drink, stick to your surgeon's post op diet, and before you know it, you will be feeling different!

Just take little sips all day long and work up to the full amount. I found it better to keep protein drinks icy cold and only pour out a couple of ounces at a time in a fancy chilled glass. If water tastes funny, try weak tea or a bit of lemon juice in water. It will get easier. Diane S

The first day home I think I got to 50 or so ounces. The second day, I felt so crappy and had a major headache from not getting enough fluids, so I started sipping at 6am and sipped pretty much non-stop until I went to bed. It was exhausting, but I got over 100 oz that day. And I felt so much better! Try to sip like it's your only job from morning until night. You'll feel so much better!

Hope you are feeling a little better, the first days are hard. Sip water all the time, it is hard, but hydration is job number one. You will be feeling better soon.... let us know how you are.
