Hi all! What was the first soft food/purée you tried post op? What became your favorite thing to have?

Im really looking forward to ricotta and eggs! ?

I think the first thing I did was mashed up hardboiled egg with avocado.

I loved getting to pureed stage - happiest day of my post-op life. I started cooking for my family again and eating with them. I'd cook things like chili, meaty spaghetti sauce, curry.. stuff that would have, before surgery, been eaten on top of carbs. So they could eat the stuff on top of whatever carb it went with and I'd puree a cup of the stuff for a few meals for myself. It worked out super well. Curry was SO GOOD.

I tended to double the quantity of the protein in the recipe too, and still do. So if the recipe called for a pound of meat, I'd add two pounds.

Egg and avocado sounds soooo good! I didn't think of trying a meat sauce...great idea!

Can I ask for your curry recipe? I've never tried it, but your response makes me want to!

I don't really have a recipe? This looks like a good description of the method -- http://www.seriouseats.com/2013/08/raghavan-iyer-ultimate-ch icken-curry-from-indian-cooking-unfolded.html

I'd recommend that instead of the spice blend in the beginning you buy a jar of curry paste (that's labeled mild, Korma is a good option I think) and use that instead of making your own spice blend. So you saute up the spice blend and the stuff (chicken, onions, garlic, ginger, etc) and then add liquid (canned tomatoes or coconut milk usually) and then the chicken gets all tender and delicious. Also pick a mild curry powder.

It's one of those things that you just sort of play around with...

I'm recommending mild because, even if you like spicy food, it's different post-op when you can't drink to cool your mouth if you need to! Better to start mild and work up to spice.

You and I are on the same page! I just posted a similar thread and then came and saw yours. Looking forward to seeing the replies to both of our posts!

I found a baked ricotta recipe on pinterest that sounds great. I searched for vsg recipes and tons popped up.

I saw that recipe for the Ricotta Bake...definitely trying it! I found a recipe for Skinny Cheesy Potato Casserole that looks good too. I know we can only have a small amount of potato, but it might be good if you are feeding a family. It has greek yogurt in it to help with the protein.

I'm even looking forward to having plain on tuna salad/chicken salad. This liquid phase sucks! I start pureed/soft food on Sunday.

I made the ricotta bake and it was sooooo good. Also eggs with ricotta and chile con queso with mozz on top. Pureed and then heated up. So good.

My first 'food' was about half a scrambled egg on day 7 - had a craving. Then apple/peach sauce (to mix with one of my medications). My favorite was beef stew thrown into the blender. I am finding I tolerate beef more than chicken (I'm now 33 days post-op).
