Updates and Struggles

VSG surgery "doesn't work" only for those people who don't follow their plan. And that doesn't mean, "Am I putting milk or water in my protein shakes". I'm guessing, at not quite 2 weeks out, that you are barely getting 400-500 calories a day (maybe less?). It is physically incapable for your body to gain weight at that kind of caloric intake.

So - take a breath, and realize that your body is all kinds of messed up right now. It's retaining water, it's probably not going through its normal bathroom cycles either, etc, etc.

What, exactly, are you eating each day? Are you weighing and tracking everything you're putting into your mouth with something like MyFitnessPal? Give us a sample meal plan for a day and we can help troubleshoot. How much liquid are you getting in each day?

It looks like you're two weeks post-op, so all you should be doing right now is walking, so that's okay.

Two weeks on Tuesday, June 27. A typical day is Carnation Essentials Light Start (150)and some water. Then it's a protein (Unjury 100 cal) shake with skim milk (80 cal) at 10:30 still sipping water. 12:30 Protein w milk. 2:30 Protein w milk. 4:30 Carnation again. Then I have some soup once I get all my main stuff in that my NUT told me to do. I blend my soup and then if it's too thick, add water. Usually can handle a 1/2 cup! I use Baritastic app. 64 + water. Not really sure the exact amount but I drink two of my 32 ounce bottles but not sure how much I really put in soup, and my NUT said that all liquids count really so there's that.

Today I changed it up and put unflavored Unjury in my Crystal light and drank 3 16 ounces of that. Plus 32 of my regular water. 2 Carnations. And some coffee. Obviously my calcium supplements and vitamins.

I wonder if the increase was due to PMS honestly, I have an IUD so gauging that stuff is hard but I still get symptoms sometimes. Who knows honestly, its all a mystery to me LOL

Oh and I wasn't exercising everyday, but for the past three days have gotten my 10,000 in and today was my first day back at work and I worked out for about an hour. Cardio and strength. about 15,000 and 8 miles total.

So.. that seems like

150+180+180+180+150 in calories, plus whatever comes from the soup. Which is 840 calories just from the drinks. That seems like a lot to me if you're adding soup which might be another 100 calories. Most people here tend to stick to 600-800 calories in the losing phase. You're also getting quite a bit more carbs than most people here aim for. (I use almond milk for my shakes for this reason - cow milk is pretty carb heavy.)

It sounds like your fluids are good. Exercise is awesome but it's not the factor in weight loss, just for general health. So its great that you're being active. Most people aren't cleared for anything more than walking for the first 6 weeks though.

So.. I dunno. I, personally, would try to cut back my calories and carbs if I were eating what you're eating. Prioritize protein.

However, I don't think your weight gain is anything to worry about at this point. I would recommend that you use something like Trendweight.com to track your weight - something that lets you focus on the trend of your weight instead of any day to day fluctuations. Ultimately, the daily fluctuations don't mean anything, it's that trend that matters. And, for some people (like me!!), numbers can really have a huge impact, so I know I needed to disconnect my daily weight in my brain as a number that meant something. (I hope that makes sense.)

When i went from liquids to soft food, it didn't go well initially. I became very nauseated so my liquids and protein were way down. I think my body went in defense mode and i stayed the same weight for about 5 or 6 days. Once i started eating and drinking more, the weight started to come off.

Your weight will come off too...i get weighed daily so won't suggest that you shouldn't do that lol!
