Lettuce?

I struggle with just eating tuna, chicken salad, or egg salad by itself. I used to put it on a lettuce wrap. I am only four weeks post-op, so don't want to try lettuce yet, but wonder if that's something that would be VSG friendly down the road.

Lettuce basically turns into nothing once it's thoroughly chewed up. I'm four years out from RNY and will do an occasional salad. I would think it would be all right as long as it's not super fibrous.

That sounds like it will be fine eventually, if that is how you prefer to eat your tuna/chicken/egg salads. During the weight loss phase though, it is generally recommended to eat protein first, then a few bites of veggies if you have room, so that you make sure you are eating enough protein to not lose too much muscle mass.

Yes, lettuce is VSG friendly down the road. I throw in a handful for chicken, tuna and taco salad. No problems.

Once you're out another couple of weeks, lettuce in small amounts is ok. I buy the green leaf vs. iceberg. It's easier on my stomach. I make lettuce wraps for everything. Just don't eat a salad, just because it's a filler with little protein or nutrition.

I'm thankful that I don't have a huge restriction with lettuce. I particularly enjoy spinach, butter lettuce, and weed salads.

Some people wind up having a problem with lettuce for some reason - it's an individual thing. I usually use chopped spinach in my salads (since about a month out) for its somewhat better nutritional profile over most lettuce. Maybe try a mini-wrap with a leaf of spinach as a WLS version?

I occasionally have lettuce or spinach without trouble. I am 6 months post op. I often eat a few cucumber slices with my chicken and tuna salad. I have also used homemade cheese crisps for the crunch. Just make sure to hit your protein requirements!
