Why did you choose the sleeve?
Reflux tends to be a contraindication for VSG. The reason is Boyle's Law. Decreased volume equals increased pressure which can lead to worse reflux and esophageal cancer. However appealing VSG sounds to you, you'd be better off with the RNY

I have rheumatoid disease (auto-immune arthritis) and my rheumatologist wanted me to retain the option for taking NSAIDs and steroids as needed. I have a history of mild reflux, so we took a chance on that and so far it's working out OK. We believe the reflux was caused by the obesity, since my surgeon did not find a hiatal hernia, but I haven't had any problems with reflux since surgery. If it hadn't been for the auto-immune, the reflux history would have pushed the decision toward RNY. I didn't like the idea of changing the digestive system function and thought of the VSG as the option with less body alteration. But absent the auto-immune, I recognize that RNY would have been a better option.
