I just had my surgery on June 5, 2017 and so far I have very little pain. I'm only taking the pain meds maybe 2-3 times a day but my issue is the gas!!!!! I'm sipping as slow as I possibly can but I still end up belching afterwards and I can feel gas moving in my body. I'm using gas x but OMG i need another remedy! I'm passing gas but no BM yet. Is this normal???? Help?????

Hi MyaD,

We got reports members were having issues with replying to your thread. It's fixed now. Sorry for any trouble this may have caused you.

I would give your surgeon's office a call if you have not done so already. See if they can up or change your meds. You don't want to suffer. CONGRATS on your surgery! We are here for you all the way

Lots of walking is the best thing for gas. But if it's been a week with no bowel movement, you should call your surgeon's office. I needed a couple of days taking milk of magnesia to clear things out. That would likely help with some of your gas too. But don't take fiber if you are aleady constipated. It will just cause more issues. You need to be cleaned out before fiber will do anything.

Most of the gas you are feeling is internal. They actually inflate you like a balloon so they can move around inside easier. So Gas-X or similar things won't touch it.

It gets better, soon. This was major surgery!

Try hot or cold packs on your abdomen...i found heat works better. As others have said...walking is what's going to move it out so try taking a short walk when it gets bad. I know that is the last thing you want to do but it really helps. You are probably having pain from the CO2 if you had laparoscopic surgery so gas x doesn't do a lot. My surgeon's office doesn't care if no BM until day 10. Are you taking a stool softener? They also suggested miralax twice a day. Also if you don't go in 10 days, try a dulcolax suppository. They work every time!

Hope you start feeling better!
