just wondering how long it should take to get down a protein shake? Im a newbie I just got sleeved 05/16/17 and I feel like it takes for ever to get down a protein shake at least an hour. Also any ideas for a new shake? I used the premier ones pre-surgery and had no problem... Now? they are so sweet they make me sick. I am using a powder Quest one now but its so thick I'm starting to hate it. Any ideas and comments would be awesome!

Tastes change greatly after surgery, so I hope you didn't buy a giant tub of something you hate today. You can try watering it down to thin it out if it's just the thickness bothering you. Go to a vitamin shop and get some single servings of different brands and flavors before you make any large purchase. Also give egg protein a try. It doesn't have the horrible whey aftertaste (because there's no whey, duh)

i got sleeved 5/22 and i break each shake into 3 sittings. i still like the premier chocolate but the vanilla now is too sweet for me. i usually pour each approx 4 ounce "serving" into a glass and slowly drink it and come back to the rest when i feel ready for more. at least an hour for an entire shake is what it is for me too.

You might want to try Unjury chicken soup protein. A really nice change from the sweet stuff. It's also made with water, so very thin and easier to get down.

When I moved into my full liquids phase, I couldn't do a full protein shake. I could drink half, and it would take me 30-40 minutes. So an hour for a whole one sounds about right to me!

I liked all the Premier Protein flavors pre-surgery, and after the only one I could stand is chocolate. I still have one each morning 4 months out.

Other options - try the starter pack from Unjury. If the thickness is bothering you, the Unjury comes out much thinner in my experience than the Premier Protein straight from the container. You can mix them with water or milk (use Fairlife if you want some extra protein in your shake). You'll also get to try the chicken soup flavor, which is a nice savory alternative to all the sweet you usually get with shakes.

Keep the protein drink icy cold and only pour out a couple of ounces at a time. A bit of unsweetened coco powder helps tone down sweetness of chocolate drinks. Greek Yogurt does the same for vanilla or fruit drinks. Its normal to take a long time to get one down so small increments work best. Diane S

Adding unsweetened cocoa powder is BRILLIANT. Why have I never thought of that?!

Everyone is different - I never had any feeling of restriction with liquids, so I could easily get in 8 ounces in 30 minutes.

You can always thin the Quest powder by adding more liquid? I like unsweetened almond milk for this. I've used Optimum Nutrition's Double Rich Chocolate since day 1 - I don't like super sweet things and it's a darker chocolate so it doesn't taste as sweet to me as every other chocolate I've tried.

Yeah, liquids have never been that restricted for me, either. I can do a full Premier Protein shake in just a minute or two if I have to. Normally I nurse them for about 5 minutes.

Keep in mind that I usually get down 100 oz of water just before lunchtime each day.
